We’ve never eaten any of the wild turkeys - I don’t think they bother going turkey hunting any longer. We did have a giant turkey that could barely walk strolling around the farm. He was a big old boy. Too old to eat. He died while defending his girls....I think it was a coyote or something.
Audrey had one of the lambs who used to follow her everywhere. Lol I have a picture of the little thing because she brought it into my house one day. She named her Chloe. Matt kept her as one of the breeding ewes because Audrey was attached to her. She’s still with us!
They did have two cows they raised and had butchered. I remember one was named Brisket. That was a few years ago. Geez, there’s been a lot of critters around here!
Oh yes it was a lamb!
Sweet that you still have her. How long can they keep having lamblets?
Poor old Tom turkey :(
Yes you’ve had a lot of critters! Did Matt come from a ranching/farming background or did he and Natalie learn it all on their own?
Hi CB!
Lol I’m up on my first trot of the night.
Matt’s grandfather came over from the Netherlands and started the farm, Matt’s father carried on and added lands and a cropping operation (lots of giant tractors and combines and such) and now he’s out of everything and Matt has taken over. They originally farmed hogs, but now Matt has everything switched over to sheep and cropping. The hogs were brutal - very hard on the barns and expensive to keep up. The sheep are much nicer. They don’t even smell, except for a little hay smell. They have lots of pasture as well. Nicer animals by far.
I remember someone presenting the case about animals raised for human consumption vs. animals living free in the wild. It was interesting. I don’t consider farming animals to feed humans as animal cruelty, and therefore don’t think anyone who is avoiding eating meat as doing anything for an animal, but if it makes them feel good, then that’s fine. I do understand the restriction if meat doesn’t agree with the body and causes digestion issues, etc., or if one just doesn’t like the feel, taste, texture of meat. That’s everyone’s choice.
I think when it comes down to it, if animals are properly cared for, they actually have a much better life on a good farm than fending for themselves in the wild. Animals in the wild don’t normally die of old age. They endure many hardships.....
-always on the lookout for themselves and their young so they don’t become another animal’s next meal
-dangers of not finding enough food, drinking water, shelter
-disease which nobody treats
-breaking a leg, getting stuck on something, getting in an accident and being left for dead
-fighting another animal and being left for dead
-bad or extreme weather
Most animals that die in the wild have suffered beforehand and are left for dead.
OTOH, if you have a good and decent farmer, he takes good care of the animals he raises, as that’s his reputation and his income. The sheep on the farm are very comfortable. They have nice clean barns, they can come and go out to the pasture, they are always fed on time, twice a day, always have fresh drinking water, they are sheered to keep them comfortable, and if they look like they’re sick, the vet is called in and the animal is treated, and they have lots of their friends to hang out with lol. When they do go for butchering, they are treated humanely and with as little pain as possible, or none. The ones who die in the wild don’t have that.
God gave us animals for our consumption, and He also told us to be responsible and good to them. If I was a sheep (lol a real one, not the people kind) I would much rather be on a responsible farm than in the wild. I may not live as long, but I may live longer, and my body would serve a better purpose than lying there rotting with vultures picking at it. Farm animals have much better lives, which is why I don’t consider farming as animal cruelty.
Ok, that’s my rant for the night. Back to bed.
Funny vid clip!
6’9” is a commanding height . I imagine he must have all of his clothes and shoes custom-made.
Uh oh. I think Venezuela is about to get “Iraned.”

I agree but most farming practices are cruel. Profit is more important than anything else, like with all big businesses.
There are lots of happy cows around here, pasture raised and sort of taken care of. As well as people here are willing to do. Going right to the sources the best way to know. But you never know what happens with the supermarket animals, shoved into tiny living areas, like how some of the chickens are raised for egg production just to make prices cheaper.
The way you guys do it, raising your own is very commendable.
I agree about wild animals, they might have a good life while they are young but once they get sick or old, it’s probably horrific. They just have to hope the end is quick but it likely isn’t.
That’s why I am oddly okay with hunting as long as people are a good shot and are responsible and don’t let the animal run off injured. It decreases overpopulation and minimizes a lot of suffering.
3 generations, that’s pretty neat. And I’m sure what he learned was invaluable.
I agree.
In my idea of a perfect world, we’d all be getting our food from our local farmers, and growing a lot more of it ourselves. There would be infinitely more small family farms, which would be wonderful. Every purchaser would personally know who was raising their animals and growing their food. When corporations take over, anything good rarely happens. It’s the takeover of farm land by the large operations that has eradicated the small family farms....to our detriment. Families cannot afford to compete with the corporations. Matt only has this farm because it was in the family. There is no way they’d otherwise have been able to farm. It would have cost several million.
Hunting is the same thing. Good shots, NEVER just for the sake of killing, and don’t dare let an animal be hit and run off. In the event that happens, the hunter must make every effort to find the animal. Yes, it takes care of overpopulation, feeds people, and the remaining animals don’t starve to death.
Truth be told, I think I was born about 100 years too late lol.
Oh speaking of dietary issues, when I was tested for allergies, any kind of meat wasn’t even tested. It must be rare.
Sometimes i find the texture unappealing. But in Italian dishes, it’s hard to be authentic (ie, tasting good) without it.
I’ve had the worst time not having my Parmesan cheese
But what I surprisingly miss the most is nightshade spices - chili powder, paprika, cayenne, green chiles. And I don’t even like hot food! But it hard to get good flavors without those in many dishes. My favorite dishes, anyway. I’ve tried substitutions but they fall short
Natalie has gone back on her no gluten, no eggs, no dairy regiment. Her naturopath has recommended it because he thinks her guts may be inflamed....nothing serious but thinks her system needs a reset.
What she misses more than anything is the dairy, especially the cheeses. She can do without the gluten and eggs, no problem, but really misses the dairy.
Today is my oldest granddaughter’s 16th birthday. I can’t believe it. Little Ava. Now she’s all excited about learning to drive. Another reason for Nanna to be fretful lol.
I got her some new cowgirl boots, she’s had a fun time so far, and her betrothed is picking her up at 5:00 for a surprise - she’s to wear a nice dress lol.
I agree with you on everything. I watch Little House on the prairie, and while it looks like an incredibly difficult life, it seems idyllic in so many ways.
Everything God had planned has gotten so corrupted, IMO. Animals weren’t meant to be raised and huge Lots by corporations. Nor our food genetically modified. And I think people thrive when they live close to the land. So many people love to Garden, there’s something about getting your hands in the dirt and growing your own food.
I couldn’t agree more about hunting. It’s how people survived a hundred years ago, along with raising and growing their own food. And family stayed together. They had to! Mom worked just as hard as dad, getting up early and making breakfast from scratch. Making homemade bread. Making clothes and soap and everything they needed. No way could mom or dad just take off and leave, not without knowing they were doing the rest of the family. And of course their belief in God, kept them honest and doing the right thing.
I love the old Michael Landon shows, I don’t know what his personal life was like but he brought God to the little screen in every episode. Other than in bonanza. I don’t remember it much there.
Me too, I’ve gotten to the point where I even like the cheese substitutes because they’re better than nothing. I’ve tried making my own cheese sauce with nutritional yeast, it does have a strong cheese flavor. Hate to say that the prepackaged stuff is actually much better. I’m trying to do things cheap because all this stuff made out of fake food is so expensive!
16! Wow. Do they have a car they’re going to let her drive? Oh wait, 16 and she’s betrothed? Do they have plans around the corner? I’m sure Matt and Natalie would put a stop to that. Or did they get married early? Or young I mean.

President Trump: Documents Signed by Joe Biden’s Autopen Are ‘Hereby Terminated’

President Donald Trump announced Friday documents signed by former President Joe Biden’s (D) “autopen” are terminated.
The president made his announcement in a post on Truth Social and claimed those who operated the autopen were doing it illegally.
“Any document signed by Sleepy Joe Biden with the Autopen, which was approximately 92% of them, is hereby terminated, and of no further force or effect. The Autopen is not allowed to be used if approval is not specifically given by the President of the United States,” Trump stated:
The Radical Left Lunatics circling Biden around the beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office took the Presidency away from him. I am hereby cancelling all Executive Orders, and anything else that was not directly signed by Crooked Joe Biden, because the people who operated the Autopen did so illegally. Joe Biden was not involved in the Autopen process and, if he says he was, he will be brought up on charges of perjury. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
In May, Trump said Biden’s alleged use of the autopen was growing into a bigger scandal.
“The president’s comments come after a Heritage Foundation report said in March the majority of official documents signed by former President Joe Biden were done so by using an autopen signature, raising many questions,” per Breitbart News.
The White House later hung portraits of U.S. presidents in the West Wing colonnade in the Rose Garden, but Biden’s was a photo of an autopen.

Yup - Little House on the Prairie lol.
I think in those days everyone was so darned busy and tired and had to concentrate on providing and surviving so much that they didn’t have the time to complain about anything trivial. I’ve always felt drawn to something like that. I loved watching The Witness, because I love how the Amish live as well.
Good afternoon Trump Train Patriots...
THANKS!
