The fact that they so quickly rescinded the shelter in place order means they know EXACTLY who the dead perp is
Good sleuthing! It’ll be interesting to see if this is connected.
Yeah, and some poster told me ALL such shooting incidents are “terrorism” because people are terrorized. The source does not matter.
“I looked it up. “Destruction of aryan nations compound was same date over 20 years ago”
wardaddy, where did you look it up at? That is not the information I get when I look it up.
Also I have family in that area so remember it well.

AI Overview
The Aryan Nations compound in Hayden Lake, Idaho, was burned during fire training exercises on July 11, 2001.
This event occurred after the Aryan Nations lost a lawsuit brought by the Southern Poverty Law Center on behalf of Victoria and Jason Keenan, who were assaulted by Aryan Nations guards. The Keenan family was awarded a $6.3 million judgment, which resulted in the 20-acre compound being transferred to them. The Keenans then donated the property to North Idaho College, which transformed it into a “peace park”.
The dismantling of the compound and subsequent burning of some structures by firefighters marked the end of the Aryan Nations’ physical presence at Hayden Lake.
There is Athol where a Paul Mullet, from Minnesota via Ohio, back in 2010 wanted to try and revive the Aryan Nations in the area. He may have been part of a stunt by the SPLC since about all that Mullett and his two buds did was get caught dump bags of flyers.
Supposedly he was trying to buy up land in the area. But it looks like his bunch later moved to Oregon.
“There is no such thing as a shoot on sight order legal in American law”
Sure there is. During the 1968 Democrat National Convention, held in Chicago, Mayor Richard M. Daley through his spokesman, announced that Looters would be “shoot to wound” and anybody with a Molotov Cocktail in hand would be “shoot to kill”.
I don t recall that incident. The kid was only 20, but maybe his father or relative was involved in the Aryan clan or something. I have a hard time wrapping my head around why anyone would go after firefighters and first responders. Or anyone really, but especially those two groups- I’m wondering if he had mental issues- paranoia or something
You know, the Post Office will stop mail delivery for an entire block, if a problem dog is not resolved.
The Firemen should take a page from that playbook, and do the same thing. “We don’t service that area, out of An Abundance of Caution. Sorry For Any Inconvenience.”
I’ll also pray for All the screwball
Hypothesis posted on this thread.
Most likely they would not let the shooter join the Fire Dept...
Press conference now. Typing a summary up as it progresses for any interested parties in this thread:
Paraphrasing:
individual was located because of a stationary cell phone pinging in the area. They had to quickly remove body because the fire swept through where it was. Guy speaking implying that some evidence, possibly including weapons, were damaged or lost in fire
based on ‘number and type of weapons’ and trajectory of shots, only 1 shooter, now deceased.
helicopters overhead had snipers in them- they’re who the Sheriff was encouraging to take any clear shot
Sheriff believes all civilians off the mountain and accounted for
1 firefighter just out of surgery, ‘stable but fighting for his life’
They’re not addressing background, name, motive, etc. Claiming they don’t have positive identification. No description of suspect at this time.
Officially “we don’t know” if shooter killed self
They do believe that the shooter started the fire for the purpose of ambushing the firefighters.
Unknown currently if shooter made the 911 call, but they don’t think so pending investigation.
Seems to be implying that shooter had multiple, prepared positions, possibly with weapons stashed in them
not releasing info on weapons at this time
they anticipate finding other weapons when they reenter the scene with daylight tomorrow
“This was a total ambush”
Fire is ~20 acres now. Did not address containment % no structures lost at this time
*sparing you the inane questions about whether firefighters are trained to deal with wilderness ambush, ‘how does this make first responders feel ahead of the busy 4th of July weekend?’ etc *
a gentle admonishment from the spokesman to the people acting irresponsibly on social media
a further gentle admonishment not to donate to fundraisers unless they’re named in a press release by CDA FD and/or PD
*another moronic question about how the firefighters feel, sounds like the same person as some of the dumb ones above*
Idaho National Guard had a blackhawk ready, but wasn’t needed in the end
spokesman denies knowledge of any significance to the date (note: it’s the 24th anniversary of the Aryan Nations compound being burned down by firefighters about 7 miles away). His face said he was lying, to be blunt.
Firefighters were engaging in reconnaissance of the fire when ambushed, hadn’t started fighting it yet
ISP is handling officer involved shooting aspect of situation (standard in Idaho)
Kootenai County commish now delivering an overly-carefully crafted statement. Response was phenomenal, it’s a great place to live, we’re not defined by what happened here decades ago, etc.
There was mutual aid from Montana, not just Washington
No evacuations currently planned for the fire.
And it’s over. Goodnight all.
That is my thought as well. If a fire broke out and spread to your property, you would ideally welcome the FD. Only exception if you have some really shady/illegal things going on and don’t want anyone to find the evidence.
Thank you for the excellent summary!
Sheriff Bob Norris said that the man whose body was found on Canfield Mountain next to a firearm is believed to have acted alone in opening fire at first responders.
The phrase "Officer involved shooting" kept coming up, But the Sheriff never stated that any LEO or private citizen shot the attacker. The sheriff’s office said members of a SWAT team found the body.
No information was provided as to the name of the attacker.
Hi Joe! Thanks for thread. Busy day, late to conversation. This is just heartbreaking atop the horror.
