Emancipation Day may have run afoul of anti-woke sentiment.
Is Juneteenth being swallowed up – and swept away – by the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) movement? The nation’s newest federal holiday was meant to be a celebration of the end of slavery in America. It was never an LGBTQ holiday or general celebration of “marginalized communities.” Yet it seems some are trying to co-opt it – or culturally appropriate it, one might say – into the broader movement. As the tide of public and political opinion turns against DEI, however, will Juneteenth find itself washed away as well?
The Southern Poverty Law Center describes Juneteenth on its Learning for Justice website as a celebration of “marginalized communities’ resistance while underscoring a troubling truth: the historical perpetuation and ongoing exacerbation of racism and queerphobia in the United States.” That, however, is not a traditional interpretation of Juneteenth.
On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger read General Order No. 3 aloud to the people in Galveston, TX. It read, in part: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.” Although the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed more than two years earlier, this was the first time many in this area had heard about it. Texans began honoring Juneteenth the following year, and, little by little, the tradition migrated to other parts of the South.
In 2021, President Joe Biden signed a bill declaring June 19 a federal holiday, but not everyone was in agreement. Some Republicans argued that it would cost too much for a historical event with which few were familiar. Then-Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) voted against the holiday, saying it would result in $1 billion in lost productivity.

I grew up in Detroit and taught for Detroit Public Schools. Up until Biden, only once did I hear anyone mention “Juneteenth.” And that was in the context of “Black slang,” meaning that if something wasn’t ever going to happen, it would happen on Juneteenth. Never mentioned as a day of celebration. Juneteenth is like Kwanza.
I fully expect it was Democrats who pushed it. Sometimes I am amazed. They likely were the ones behind this, and you hear them whining about Trump’s efforts to clean up the Democrat invasion effort, with things like “Who is going too clean our toilets, mow our lawns, and pick our crops?”
It is as if they are unable to stand back and listen to the things that come out of their mouths. That Whoopie Goldberg thing the other day was a perfect example.
A holiday for people who already don’t work. The market is closed and I’m not making money today.
When I was working, I always enjoyed an extra day off with pay, but don’t see a lot of excuse ,or even good reasoning for “Juneteenth”. Admittedly, it is different when you are retired.
I’m from the area of Juneteenth and knew it as a tiny little historical trivia event recognized by a few Galveston/Houston locals about a little known local story.
I’m totally mystified by this sudden 21st century phony national holiday that has no real substance and nothing to do with anything other than some local flavor, the kind of thing that gives an excuse to start a little local annual festival if a promoter decided to create it.
Celebrating and having a dedicated holiday for the end of slavery in this nation was overdue.. long overdue..
Calling it Juneteenth however was the stupidest thing it could
Have ever been named.
It’s a portmanteau.
Ya know, like “brunch” and “email” and “chortle” and “Brexit” and “smog” and “spork” and “webinar.”
I guess they’re all illiterate renderings, too.

On this Juneteenth let’s be grateful to God Almighty that the United States legally and officially ended the execrable and abhorrent practice of slavery over one hundred and fifty years ago. And let’s pray to Jesus Christ to help us in this modern era, to rid our lands of evil that still perpetuates nightmares.
Let’s hope and pray that recognizing this achievement will help the descendants of slaves heal and recognize who is truly on their side even today. Let’s pray the history lesson we should all know or learn is appreciated and understood by those with eyes to see and ears to hear.
Slavery was a battle from Day 1 of our Republic. In winning the war against Democrats and their love of chained, black flesh and souls, Republicans were able to legally free and protect their black brothers and sisters from the indignity of being owned and of having their families torn apart by Democrats who only cared for their very own power and pocketbooks. Black families were able to grow and thrive in this land of opportunity. For one hundred years former slaves and their grandchildren became land owners, business owners, musicians, writers, politicians, they had success in every walk of life, even though they still fought against the discrimination and bigotry of democrats who still despised them for being free.
Black families and communities did not have it as easy as they would have without democrats, but any progress they made was eventually stolen by LBJ and the new Democrat Party, who nonetheless enslaved black flesh and souls once again in ghetto plantations. Black families were torn apart with cheap housing and welfare money, food stamps. With the indignity of not being the heads of their houses, black men were degraded again into despair and depression until drugs and gangs replaced their desire for meaning and purpose. Black women only had to have a child every year to get more money, it was no matter that there was no family, there was just Uncle Sam’s check.
And yet, today, while we rejoice in our own civilized society, let’s remember the places on earth where the uncivilized, ignorant, and animalistic scum of the earth still enslave fellow humans. And let’s ask our “Leaders” why slavery is allowed to exist at all?
Starting with American Democrats and their love of the open border, where women and children are trafficked into the slave trades of sex work and forced labor.
Not alone in their lust for perversion and cheap workers, American Democrats are joined by at least the following, hellish nightmares on earth.
We can estimate 10 million slaves in the sex, drug, and labor trades in the Americas alone.
Venezuela, Haiti, El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Bolivia, Peru, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Cuba, Brazil, Trinidad, Panama, Guyana, Argentina, United States, Costa Rica, Chile, Uruguay, Canada,
Around the rest of the earth it’s estimated 50 million souls are held in slavery. These countries are the worst offenders. India, China, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Turkey, Bangladesh,
Our own United States is estimated to have at least 1,091,000 souls held in darkness and anguish, suffering fates as bad as any American slave suffered 165 years ago.
But, yes, let’s remember the Americans who fought and died to free their their enslaved brothers and sisters. Let’s ask ourselves what has gone wrong since then. Let’s turn to democrats and ask if they are blind liars or just stupid. Let’s ask who is responsible for the loss of family and dignity and opportunity in the ghetto plantations today.

Just read General Order #3.
Ahahahahahahaha!
You won't spend the evening watching "Shaft"?
“Imagine if a federal district judge were to declare the Emancipation Proclamation to be invalid, and issue a nationwide injunction against it.”
Well the Confederate States considered it invalid and they were the only states affected by it. The Emancipation Proclamation did not free any slaves in states that had not seceded nor did they free slaves in the Indian Territories.
+1...It is a state (TX) “thing” (Word of emancipation gets to Galveston, TX). Should not be yet another very costly national holiday.
“Juneteenth” may be a portmanteau, but it’s still cringe- kind of like when they try to push two dating actor’s names together…..
My only son died 2 yrs ago today. I hate June 19th.
Nice try, but it’s just illiterate gibberish.
“Action Jackson” — Too dumb to watch. But I tried for Juneteenth.
June 19:
On this day in 1953 the foul traitors Julius Rosenberg and Ethel Rosenberg met their well-deserved ends in the electric chair at Sing Sing Prison. Because of their vile treachery, the evil USSR received vital information regarding American remote sensing technology and nuclear weapons designs.
Sorry.
Then so is email. And Brexit. And libtard. And the list goes on.
Nobody ever whines about the other portmanteaus.
And yet, with the certainty that Robert Byrd was a klansman and Kamala Harris is drunk, every year on this day, everyone clutches their linguistic pearls.
It’s gotta be a coinkidink.
It’s illiterate gibberish. Your defense of illiterate gibberish is noted. It is not excused, because there’s no excuse for it.
