US withdraws from formal Ukraine peace negotiations
The Telegraph via Yahoo ^ | May 2nd, 2025 | Iona Cleave

The United States will no longer mediate peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia after Vladimir Putin refused to sign up to a ceasefire.

The State Department said it is changing “the methodology of how we contribute” to the talks and will no longer “fly around the world at the drop of a hat” for meetings.

“We will continue to help, but we will no longer fly around the world as mediators in meetings,” said Tammy Bruce, a spokesperson.

She added that Kyiv and Moscow must now present “concrete” proposals for ending the war and should meet directly to resolve the conflict.

Washington withdrawing from peace talks came soon after the US signed a minerals deal with Ukraine on more favourable terms for Kyiv, while Donald Trump green-lit his administration’s first round of weapons deliveries to the war-torn country.

Trump arming Ukraine again

Hardball negotiations.

Still, not a good sign for us. The Ukraine is running out of people to use those weapons against the Russians. And too many arms intended for Ukraine have already shown up in Mexico.

We had best be very careful about what we send and exactly where it goes.

It undermines DOGE to spend another penny on military funding for Ukraine.

It's as much a waste of money as any pork barrel project.

This is my first disappointment with Trump. I feel he was not truthful.

I am no longer going to look the other way when he does this.

He could have ended this and all he cared about was some goofy minerals deal. I guess those lives he talked about saving weren’t so much after all.

Doesn’t mean I don’t like other things he is doing, but this was important.

Right. The media is still operating on 1970’s rules, which were that any summit meeting absolutely had to result in some kind of signed document, else it would be a sign of catastrophic failure. Presidents like Carter gave away a lot just so they could come out on the steps of some building and announce an agreement. Trump is a totally different kind of leader, and he knows what he is doing.

"Trump arming Ukraine again."

Yay, back to the Biden strategy. Worked so well before. Harris would be doing this had she won, it's like you get the same crap regardless.

The $50M document seems to be authorization by State to US defense companies to sell various defense items to Ukraine. It is not the US sending arms or money, as best can be understood in the document. The money for the buy is not mentioned. It could be EU money. It can be from anywhere and Lockheed et al are authorized to take that money in return for shipping . . . not so much arms but apparently services.

This does not at all read like shipping from US inventory.

Sorry, I just don’t like this at all. I don’t have to slobber over something I am not happy about.

I would be a hypocrite if I did.

Ukraine is not important to my country.

The mineral deal was supposed to substitute for protection assurances.

President Trump kept telling Zelenskyy that American business people on the ground in Ukraine would deter Russia from attacking.

President Trump is backing away from the negotiations to let EU leaders step up, but he will speed up getting the minerals projects going as the deterrence against further Russian aggression in Ukraine.

That's the plan, anyway.

I was never a big Vivek fan. I don’t think you read, or did you comprehend my post. Go back and read it again.

If you spend months or years posting about something and and a candidate campaigns and fervently mirrors the opinion you have, that is a reason you may want to vote for that person.

If that person changes his mind and appears to do the opposite, I am not going to clap like a mindless seal and automatically change my mind just because he did.

People would point out that I was being a hypocrite and they would be correct. I am not the one who has veered from my stance. His admin is.

I knew when I made my post that there were going to be those who were going to get crappy with me. That is okay but I still haven’t changed my mind and I still support Trump on most things, but disagree on this.
