Sen. Chris Van Hollen took aim at President Donald Trump and the El Salvador government over their treatment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the migrant who the government said in court was erroneously deported to El Salvador, and for trying to deflect from the notion that the U.S. government is flouting court orders to "facilitate" his return to the U.S.
The Maryland Democrat joined Abrego Garcia's wife and mother and other supporters at Washington Dulles International Airport on Friday and spoke about his three-day visit, providing more details about the one-hour conversation he had with Abrego Garcia.
Van Hollen took aim at the president for slamming him earlier in the day for the visit.
Trump has maintained claims, without providing evidence in court, that Abrego Garcia is a violent member of MS-13.
Van Hollen repeated that Trump is lying about the case and attempting to change the story from being about Abrego Garcia's due process rights to allegations of gang membership and violence.
"So the effort by the Trump administration to try to conflate these two issues goes to the heart of what I was just talking about: their effort to change the subject," Van Hollen said.

All the Dems and the propaganda media’s efforts to gin up sympathy for this and similar monsters and to trick Americans into a wildly false reality is one of the most morally repulsive things I’ve seen in a first world, free nation. But of course these people always put criminals before their innocent victims, illegals before American citizens, the elites above everyday Americans.
Rather than being an innocent Maryland father who should be returned to his family, his wife filed a police report about how he punched her on many occasions, scratched her eye, hit her with his work boot, ripped her clothes off of her, and made her live in fear. She said she had photos of the black eye he gave her and of the bruises from the beatings. He had a restraining order placed on him because of this.
And then there’s the local police report of him being picked up far from his home with a vehicle full of illegals. The police alerted the FBI to what they considered to be his engaging in human trafficking. The reason he wasn’t charged was because Biden’s FBI told the police to just let him go.
And of course two judges had already determined he was in fact an MS-13 gang member. He had a credible informant who confirmed the details of his membership in MS-13 to the police including his rank and gang nickname. And the government of El Salvador also confirmed that they have intelligence that he is an MS-13 member.
He has common MS-13 gang symbols on his fingers. He was wearing a hoodie with MS-13 symbols when he was arrested with two other known MS-13 members. He had rolls of cash and drugs on him. And the media don’t care at all about any of these facts, as they focus on manipulating the public in to thinking he’s a completely innocent American or at least a legal immigrant and use it to fearmonger like wild. It’s just sickening. We can’t ever forget how our opponents choose evil in almost any debate.
