WASHINGTON, March 27 (Reuters) - Discussions are being held on whether Representative Elise Stefanik should step away from her nomination to be President Donald Trump's U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a White House official said on Thursday.

Pulling her from the nomination would be done in part because of concern about Republicans' tight majority in the House of Representatives, which she would leave if confirmed for the post.

Good plan.

Now get US out of UN and UN out of US.

It is a total waste of taxpayer dollars—at best.

If democRATs gain control of the House, they will immediately start impeachment proceedings against Trump.

Unless her area is solid and they are sure about her replacement, I would not nominate her. The idiotic UN is not worth it.

I think perhaps the uncertainty of the Wisconsin Supreme Court election played a role in the decision. If that leftist hack steals her seat, Wisconsin will lose two Republican congressional seats. She has said redistributing would have her special attention.

I was surprised when she was nominated...going to the UN is not a career enhancer.

Fully agree. I think Elise is quite sharp, very smart.

Trump should have never nominated her. We need her right where she was at.

Not a problem with the 2 FLA seats. NY, not so much.

Trump on Truth Social at 11:12 Arizona time:

As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress. We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat. The people love Elise and, with her, we have nothing to worry about come Election Day. There are others that can do a good job at the United Nations. Therefore, Elise will stay in Congress, rejoin the House Leadership Team, and continue to fight for our amazing American People. Speaker Johnson is thrilled! I look forward to the day when Elise is able to join my Administration in the future. She is absolutely FANTASTIC. Thank you Elise!

I don’t know much about her, but I have heard she is pretty good, so I can accept that. Just don’t want to put our majority in the House, as slim as it is, at risk.

Agreed. I’ve appreciated some of her work in the past and would love for her to ascend to a position that she could potentially embrace and excel.

But we need to hang onto her seat in the House.

Speaker Johnson has been clear about this since January that Trump needs to stop poaching the House Republicans caucus for his leadership team. This is especially important for States like New York where the leaders there will do everything they can to stop Trump’s agenda.

If Trump were to keep poaching this caucus then the following will happen:
1. Johnson gets nothing passed through House.
2. Some of Liz Cheney’s remaining soulmates in the House RINO caucus will work with the Dems to vacate the Speakership and get Jeffries elected as Speaker.
3. Trump will be quickly impeached & forget about getting any meaningful legislation passed, such as reigning in the district courts’ extremism approach to usurping Executive branch powers.
4. If Johnson loses the Speakership anytime between now and November 2026 then you should forget about the GOP maintaining the House in the midterms.
