How an Autopen Conspiracy Theory About Biden Went Viral
The New York Times ^ | March 22, 2025, 5:02 a.m. ET | Ken Bensinger and Steven Lee Myers

Mike Howell was looking at his phone in an airport lounge this month when he saw a letter from the attorney general of Missouri questioning whether President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had the “mental capacity” to sign the pardons and executive orders he issued during his final months in office.

Mr. Howell, executive director of the Oversight Project, a branch of the conservative Heritage Foundation, sensed an opportunity, he said in an interview. For months, he had been comparing Mr. Biden’s signature on dozens of official documents and noting that many of them appeared identical. Before boarding his flight, Mr. Howell made a conspiratorial post on X: “Whoever controlled the autopen controlled the presidency.” While critics of Mr. Biden questioned his fitness for office, no evidence has emerged that he did not consent to any of the acts bearing his signature.

Yet by the time Mr. Howell landed, his post had gone viral. Within days, the notion that shadowy deep state operatives had been secretly running the country instead of Mr. Biden, using a mechanical contraption to achieve their diabolical aims, had erupted into a furor.

An autopen is a machine that uses a real pen to copy a person’s actual signature. Presidents and other politicians have used such devices for decades with little public interest. In the first two months of this year, the term was mentioned a total of 49 times on television, radio and podcasts in the United States, according to data from the media tracker Critical Mention.

It was uttered 6,188 times on March 17 alone.

Right-wing talk radio, podcasts and cable news shows have now devoted hundreds of segments to the arcana of wet signatures and autopen technology. They are particularly focused on Mr. Biden’s signatures on his pardons of political allies like...

“It does show how corrupted our information ecosystem is that something like this can gain attention,” said Welton Chang, co-founder and chief executive of Pyrra Technologies, a digital threat company that tracks trends on social media.

Free speech is the problem, right Welty?

If the NYeT is forced to play White Hospice defense this far into TrumpII’s unmitigated ass-kicking First 100 Days II, how is that a bad thing.

Feeling inadequate?
Think that perhaps the media really is intelligent?
Then, my friend, read the NYT and realize that no matter your self perception, there are folks that you can feel superior to. Because you are.

Didn't Biden say he would not issue a pardon for Hunter? That is evidence he did not consent to the pardon.

It went “viral” because it’s undeniably true and shocking.

Our country was on autopilot for four years, led by various unknown and unelected individuals.

Its the first time in history a man with obvious dementia was the President. The fact there is no secrecy about the fact the media, politicians and foreign leaders all covered for the senile old prick is what makes it so believable. The NYT had a nice part to play in the cover up. So why are these folks so surprised that folks question whether Pedo Joe had the mental acuity to make these decisions… or to even know if he is making them.

Simpleton Biden deserves every discouraging word we can throw at him.

The way he connived to get into office and his outrageous conniving while in office.

As usual the media getting ahead of a true story by calling it a fabrication and the product of “right wing” propaganda.

Is there precedent that it’s used to sign legislation into law?

Disgusting how the NYT leaps into action to defend any and all Democrats when they are supposed to be a news org. The IG declined to prosecute Biden because he was not mentally competent but competent enough continue doing the most mentally demanding job on the planet.

Neera Tanden should be subpoenaed to testify under oath before the House. What they did to mask his incompetence was criminal.

Now we know it is true since the NY Slimes denies it! Give it 6 months and everyone else will accept the autopen fraud as fact.
