Canada outraged after four citizens executed by China over drug charges: ‘Inconsistent with basic human dignity’

China executed four Canadian nationals over drug charges earlier this year, prompting strong rebukes from the Western country amidst an already rocky relationship.

It is unclear exactly when this year the executions took place, but Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said Wednesday she and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tried to stop them — and are seeking leniency “for other Canadians that are facing a similar situation,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

The victims were described as “Canadian nationals” who held dual citizenship with China, though China does not recognize dual citizenship. China treats drug charges with a notoriously heavy hand, issuing lifetime prison sentences for smuggling and sometimes even meting out executions — though they are rarely carried out against Westerners.

There are no crimes punishable by death in Canada.

Note to self: Deal drugs in Canada from now on.

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

I expect China to enforce its laws. In this case the laws are well known and observance is easy. Millions of people visited China last year without legal problems

China doesn’t recognize dual citizenship. The CHICOMS aren’t always wrong.

Canada can threaten to withhold electricity from China as a retaliation.

Is this the same China that supplies materials to Mexican Cartels to cook up fentanyl to sell in the US? That China?
