I can’t live without my Saturday delivery of paper ads. Don’t even bring it up.

Is there anything the media can get RIGHT? The Postal Service is one of a few government agencies explicitly authorized by the Constitution of the United States.

While my mailman is a nice guy who delivers mail to our house six days each week, I would be more than satisfied if he only delivered mail three times per week.

And this would cut mail delivery costs by 50%.

Now for the businesses that need daily delivery, they could pay an annual fee for daily delivery.

so then...it’s you looking forward to the destruction of more trees just so you can get your Saturday morning “paper ads” fix! in the future generations more trees will be saved by the education system. and why? the fewer people who can read, the less trees needed for Saturday morning ads, that’s why.

What branch do you think it’s under? There are only three. The military is also called out by the constitution specifically. Who does it fall under?

The report is from the Washington Post, therefore is unreliable.

Roll it back into govt control, funding and administration. Take their trust fund for general govt fund. turn it back into civil service patronage jobs for veterans. Maybe make being honorably discharged veteran a job requirement.

Our local mail lady is great as well. But agree with your point. Three times a week would be plenty. I only check for mail once a week mostly anyway.

Maybe then it will be run as an efficient business, not a multi-billion dollar boondoggle. Look at the routes your mail takes? It is hardly “green” or efficient. If we mail a letter to a neighbor it goes to a distribution center 80 miles away before it comes back next door. It’s ridiculous.

Can't see the point of Saturday delivery...5 days a week is plenty for a normal household.

Why can't we opt out of advertisement deliveries...like we did with the phone call cr**.

“””USPS employs more than 600,000 people.””””

The above are the final words in this story. Maybe USPS should change its business model and operate with 300,000 people.

Unlike most agencies, the Postal Service is an independent operation. That said, the pension system of the USPS keeps the Federal Pension system afloat. If they could fund their pension like any other agency or corporation, they would be solvent. And…the rest of the Federal pension system would be bankrupt.

It is an accounting scam that has been going on far too long.

In terms of DOGE stuff-the USPS is much more automated and modern than almost any other government system. A piece of mail can go from point A to Point B without ever touching a human being except for both end points.

I worked at the PO for three summers during and after college. It was a very manual system in 1980. No so much any more. The automation is staggering.
