Report: Donald Trump ‘Unhappy’ with Mike Johnson After Spending Fight
Breitbart ^ | 12/23/2024 | Wendell Husebo

House Speaker Mike Johnson is reportedly not in good graces with President-elect Donald Trump.

Johnson needs Trump’s support to keep the gavel on January 3, the day House Republicans will have an option to renew or cancel his speakership.

Johnson appears on the outs with Trump due to his decision last week to try to pass a massive continuing resolution, filled with pork and at Democrat-raised spending levels. Trump torpedoed the measure and demanded a smaller bill with a debt level extension. Johnson’s response was to pass a bill without a debt level extension that only kept the government open until March 14.

There are two ways Trump could go. Keep Johnson in as Speaker, but keep him on a short leash ( In some ways, there are advantages to this approach). The other option, of course, is to back a more aggressive MAGA Speaker. Either way, Trump is going to have to play an active role in giving House Republicans direction.

As mentioned, there might be some advantage to keeping Johnson in for the moment. Doing so sets up a good cop, bad cop dynamic. That’s kind of what played out in the CR battle, and the final result ended up being not that bad. By starting off with a bad bill and letting the voters, and team Trump push back, publicly, until an acceptable outcome is achieved, the House caucus is put on perpetual notice that their careers are at stake. Think of it as a way of keeping sunlight on the process and forcing it to take place in public rather than behind closed doors.

He didn’t want the job . The reason he is speaker is because the GOP ousted McCarthy.

Mike Johnson has the political shelf life of a fruit fly.

Sam Rayburn was Speaker 1940 to 1947, 1949 to 1953, and 1955 to 1961. Rayburn also served twice as House Minority Leader (1947 to 1949 and 1953 to 1955).

Pelosi was Speaker 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.

Will anyone in GOP break those records?

Everyone knew the 1500 page "essay" would not pass.

I believe the events all happened as planned. Months spent on coming up with 1500 pages...and here we were...a few days away...and here come Lucy...and suddenly we're down to 116 pages with a stunner which we knew would never pass...and poof...it was gone and 118 pages were consecrated by the House...with 34 Republicans abstaining...and ALL Democrats voting for it.

Amused me to see Schumer with a big grin, a thumbs up and deeming their TOTAL LOSS a win. lol

Marktwain replys:

I considered the same thing. Johnson and Trump and others may have planned it the way it came out. A win is a win.

And that’s putting it kindly...typical uniparty/GOPe turncoat. When the scumbag Johnson ‘reached across the aisle’ and worked with Jeffries to pass a huge CR, FISA extension for 10 years, a couple hundred million to Ukraine I knew then the liar and thief was just another deep state operative. Now we know why he was picked and sworn in so quick.

Since President Trump won and not Johnson’s buddy Xiden things have changed but this dips..t hadn’t realized it. Don’t recall a time the last 50 years that the GOPe sellouts ever pulled a spending bill.

I consider Newt the expert on the wranglings of the Speaker of the House and he said Johnson did an excellent job.

And remember, Johnson said he was in touch with Trump....every step of the way.

The Dems got snookered....and they know it.

“He didn’t want the job . “

Who made him to take the job?

He could have just said “I would really suck at being the Speaker, so I’m not going to do it. Find someone else that maybe has a back bone.”
