Nearly all eggs sold in Michigan starting before the New Year must come from cage-free birds, even as egg prices continue to climb.
Michigan lawmakers modified the Animal Industry Act in 2019, requiring shell eggs from chickens, ducks and other fowl, sold in the state to be from cage-free housing systems, starting Dec. 31, 2024.

Are you retarded?
...and the Zeepers keep complaining about the egg prices in Ruzzia. I wonder what they have to say about this?
I'm fine with the standard 70/30 ground beef in the meantime. It's packed with nutrition. Sometimes I'll get it freshly grinded by a butcher with some livers thrown in. I don't especially like the taste of liver but when it is mixed in with ground beef, you can hardly taste it.
Wrong copy paste.
Here’s your post…
“ Given that chickens will lay eggs even when they’re in “cages” says to me that they’re OK with their accommodations. ”
And that’s the scam. Cage free and free range are not the same thing. Cage free is still a bunch of chickens packed in tightly in an indoor enclosure. And they can charge more...
It’s still not anything close to homegrown chicken eggs.
Blue State Hell
I’m concerned about bird flu and how easily it’s spread throughout factory farm chickens.
According to studies, there is less of that with free range chickens.
The difference is the taste.
Organic stuff tastes better. If you don’t notice the taste, then, yeah, get the non-organic. It’s better for the wallet!
So you’re saying that I’m retarded to be OK with eggs that aren’t “free range”? OK...I guess there are many, many Americans who are retarded like me.Many of them are fine with the same eggs I buy.
Uncaging chickens will be counter productive. Chickens were caged for several reasons, one being that uncaged, chickens peck each other to death or loss of productivity. Also, operational efficiency achieved from caged chickens has made eggs affordable. Screw the uncaged, free range goofuses.

No. I’m recognizing that something is wrong with your brain when you are OK with animal cruelty as long as you get a price break. Or maybe it’s your soul…
Of course cruelty and immorality always has lots of company.
My kids used to hypnotize them and set them on the fence, to see how many they could get hypnotized at one time.
I set up an incubator in my kitchen with 100 banny eggs for the kids to turn daily and learn the hatching process. About half were the meanest roosters I have ever encountered. They became target practice.
Life on a farm is healthy for raising children. My kids are all super smart, so I’m glad I humbled them to shovel manure. It also made them appreciate their education.
There are several pastes available to stop the pecking.
Feeding the roosters lead also helps the hen’s necks.
they are not chicken “babies” until they are fertilized... fwiw...
Cage free and organic mean nothing in egg labeling
Pasture raised does however
Any egg can be called organic raised with scratch feed and a walk about beside the laybox which is common means cage free
It’s just marketing enhancement but pasture raised label means larger outdoor access for hens
And cost more
Usually means bigger yoke and richer egg
I prefer farm eggs but any will do if I need them
It’s the perfect food and I love duck eggs except $$$$
I grew up with worlds biggest egg producers
That’s what they tell me
