CV NEWS FEED // The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) voiced opposition to a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would require women to register for the military draft. They also reiterated their support for pro-life policies.
In the Dec. 4 letter addressed to congressional leaders, Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, and Bishop Mark Seitz emphasized the importance of preserving the option of military service for women rather than making it mandatory.
“The USCCB has long held that the practice of making military service an option for women, but not an obligation, has served us well as a society,” the bishops wrote, citing a 1980 statement on the issue.
They continued, “As a result, we oppose the Senate bill’s provision requiring women be automatically registered to the Selective Service.”
Additionally, the bishops restated their 2023 call for Congress to reject policies allowing federal funding for abortion through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DOD), advocating instead for measures that protect life and support families.
“We urge Congress to provide authentic support for women, children, and families while ensuring that federal resources are not used to facilitate, promote, or provide abortion,” the bishops wrote.
They later added that the USCCB “urges retention of the provision in the House NDAA which would prohibit payment and reimbursement by the DOD for expenses relating to abortion services.”
The bishops also criticized the proposed expansion of insurance coverage for in vitro fertilization (IVF). They reiterated their concerns about “the destruction or interminable freezing of millions of unborn children” and their support of “restorative reproductive fertility methods, which are an ethical and comprehensive approach to address the root causes of infertility and which are often more effective and affordable [than IVF].”
The bishops also called on congressional leaders to prioritize supporting Afghan allies, calling for pathways to permanent residency for those relocated to the U.S. and additional protections for those still at risk.
“We reaffirm the moral imperative to provide full and permanent integration for those already relocated to the United States,” the bishops wrote, “and to continue facilitating lawful pathways for those who remain outside of the country and vulnerable to persecution because of their assistance.”
Don't believe me? Those of you in the Navy when they tried to order women out to sea how many women all of the sudden ended up pregnant and couldn't go?
I however, am not complaining. I would be laughing my ass off at Planned Parenthood.
Doing "men's stuff" only when it is convenient or pleasant doesn't send that message.
I believe there’s a Bible verse that says something about a country that uses women in war will eventually destroy itself, or words to that effect.
Not all women are those kind of democrat feminist.
I see your point however and for the most part those would be the ones drafted you know why? They are the ones being made sterile right now because Trump won so they can’t get pregnant!!! Think about that.
The conservative ones would get pregnant and thus avoid the draft!
I wonder how ever what the army will do with fat, green haired, multi pierced and tattoed women that Laz would not even hit? I guess that is the whole point? Scare the enemy to surrender?
Being drafted does not mean that you will automatically go into a combat role. There are plenty of clerical and stateside jobs in today’s military that women could serve in just fine.
You want equal rights, you gotta have equal responsibilities.
It is disgraceful to send women to fight. One night years ago Mark Levin read on his radio program a true story of hand to hand combat between a US soldier and an Iraqi near a creek bed. The American eventually bashed the Iraqi’s head in with a rock. Levin asked in his emotional, angry way: How would you like your wife or daughter or granddaughter or girlfriend or whomever wrestling a man with his upper body strength advantage?
Liberalism is at perpetual war with nature, reality and common sense.
There is that, but there is also the counterpoint that recent wars have pointed out that sometimes you need to fight with *all* of your population base. Or that at the very least everyone should receive basic training in case the wolf comes to the door.
And again, just because you’re drafted doesn’t mean you must go into frontline combat service. For example, a lot of combat drone pilots are women and they fly combat missions around the world from command centers here in the US.
Oh I know. In WWII many women worked as nurses and other jobs. I’m just saying it’s so easy for a woman to avoid this.
“So you’re pregnant. Great! You’re now pushing papers for the Army to free up men for combat service until close to the time of birth.”
Again, pregnancy isn’t a problem for the draft when you realize that it doesn’t equal mandatory combat service.
Combat? No.
National Service? Sure. Draft the women, put them in uniform, and put them to work in a no-nonsense military environment.
If there is a draft, everyone should do their part.
(But I don’t think we need a draft. Heck, I oppose a standing army for the most part.)
Biblicist (meaning Bible-adhering) Christians---and there are still very many---would have to say a flat, "NO!" "We will not do this to our family structure!" Our family is one of those families.
A woman, remaining home and raising the next generation of godly and stable contributors, in her children, to every sector of society, is a true PATRIOT in her own right, because she is helping to preserve the real core of the nation . . . that which our Armed Forces exist to fight and die for.
We are very glad that Pete Hegseth opposes women in combat roles, and this should be quite enough to quell the drive for drafting women, since IN LAW the purpose for a draft is to provide COMBAT TROOPS. But for millions of Christian families across the land, the MAIN issue is the solidity of the home and the preservation of the Biblical traditional family, and that in their day-to-day roles.
We have followed the "Draft-Our-Daughters" movement since 1994. We have spent huge amounts of our time each year since then in fighting that movement. Since 1994 we have written about fifty letters (to elected representatives) and articles (for publication) PER YEAR in defense of the Biblical family structure and opposing the registering of females.
One thing our country does NOT need, and that is the further breaking up of our homes; we should never force women out of their homes. A registering and drafting of homes would be a major affront to the Biblical Christian faith of millions of Americans.
The mandatory registration of women is not likely to be included in NDAA FY 2025. We have already begun the battle to prevent it for FY 2026 and beyond.
The “equal responsibility” for women is to preserve in their children the core of the nation-—it is the defense from within, while the military soldier defends from without.
Our daughters and granddaughters would be among those who refuse to comply. They are PATRIOTS by raising, in their children, the next generations of godly, stable, good citizens.
First, there isn't going to be an actual draft. So, registration for the draft is symbolic only.
Second, despite an actual draft not happening, many women, including a lot of ones on the left, will panic about it. They'll raise all the arguments why women shouldn't be drafted. And every single one of those arguments will help is in our battle against the feminization of the military, trannies, etc..
Our enemies will be making the argument about the differences between men and women for us.
Well I was speaking about women in combat. True the IDF has women in combat but as armed support plus tank drivers and the IAF pilots.
Drafting women means the population will not recover after the war.
They can still do that while flying drones by renote, defending against cyberattacks, pushing papers, etc., etc. and can free up men for the front lines.
Women can and should be drafted for all of the above positions and more.
To counterpoint this - there’s a LOT of leftie female support for foreign military ventures and policies that can lead to wars because they don’t have to sign up for the draft, even for non-combat service.
If everyone has to sign up, that support is going to vanish.
Again, the draft does NOT automatically mean combat service.
