Trump encounters Senate GOP limits with failed Gaetz AG push
The Hill ^ | 11/22/24 4:02 PM ET | by Al Weaver

President-elect Trump’s ill-fated nomination of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to run the Justice Department marked an early sign of his potential limits in moving his nominees and dealing with Senate Republicans, giving him less wiggle room to get his Cabinet in place.

Riding high off his electoral win earlier this month, Trump tapped Gaetz to become attorney general in what emerged as a quick test for Senate Republicans, with Trump expecting them to capitulate to him as they have numerous times over the years.

But Gaetz turned out to be toxic. His withdrawal served as strike one for Trump’s selections and as a warning from the Senate GOP that this situation should not be repeated, as the former president cannot afford to let one of his nominees fail on the floor in the coming months.

“You have no idea how easy it is to vote against a person in power if you let them do it once,” one GOP senator told The Hill.

The experience also may be a lesson for Team Trump moving forward.

Well, Pam Bondi will get confirmed. Hopefully she’ll be OK.

Gaetz might be the big ask, that might have been his role all along.

However I have no idea about what happens in Washington

It was a head fake from the start. Pam Bondi was always the pick. Whatever the plan was will come out.

But Gaetz turned out to be toxic.

He didn't *turn out* to be toxic.

He sadly, already was.

Naturally the Hill does not know what they’re talking about.

Did Donald Trump really choose Matt Gaetz as his first choice or did he have Pam Bundy in mind all along and then put forth Gaetz as an extreme pic knowing that Dems and RINOs would settle for Pam Bundy.

I’m pretty sure they are going to regret their hissy fit.
Pam will kick their asses. I think this was Trumps plan all along. he plays chess while Democrats and RINOs play tiddly winks.

the damned margins in congress are simply too thin

we’re in for 4 years of hell getting anything accomplished in congress with these thin margins

just a handful of RINOs seeking “fame and fortune” can sell out any legislative bill or any appointment

damn!
we need to watch the remaining vote counting (or fake vote counting) where it is still going on

Hmmm…how does “Senator Gaetz” sound?

I’m sure McConnell will swallow hard at that.

As long as the deep state lives in the Senate then it will control it.

I really think it was an old Jedi Mind trick - Overexposure of Gaetz, and then Obi Juan says about Bondi, “This is not the droid you seek”. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Trump encounters Senate GOP limits with failed Gaetz AG push

It's likely some of the hypocrites condemning Gaetz sexcapes have
done worse.

There is no reporting on the congressional slush fund for out of bounds
sexual antics by our "honorable" legislators of both parties.

At least Bondi has actually been a prosecutor and headed a large AG’s office.

Gaetz might be the big ask, that might have been his role all along.

Trump shoved the Overton window wide open with the Gaetz pick.

Good luck to the Dims closing it again.

Gaetz was RINO bait, and a bunch got caught and roasted by Trump supporters. Mitch got absolutely scortched. Turdle can’t stick his head up without getting called out as a senilre corrupt treasonous felon. Must be tough waking up at the end of your career and discovering that your legacy looks like a manure pile.

Yes, his father is a Senator. Wonder if his father resigns and the Governor replaces him with Matt Gaetz.
