Stores across America are shutting down left and right as shoppers are unable to afford to spend money on non-essentials.
CNN Business reported on Friday that so far in 2024, major retailers have said they are closing down 6,189 stores. That number surpasses the 2023 total of 5,553, per Coresight Research, the article said.
“Chains are on track to close the highest number of stores in 2024 than any year since 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic decimated the industry.”

“But joy will save us!”
Here in the blue part of Ohio people think it will.
They say that?
JOY ——
Fascinating.
“They say that?”
Not directly. Liberals don’t engage, they merely rant at you if you disagree. LOTS of those liberal scumbags are in this part of Ohio, and they will vote to preserve their right to kill babies. That’s where they find joy.
Cleveland?
but, but the economy is at full employment and inflation is so under control they’re cutting rates...don’t all these stores know that.
How much is less spending versus more crime?
To be fair, it was government's overreaction to Covid-19 with all of its unnecessary edicts and mandates that decimated the industry.
The left is OK with cutbacks in the private sector, but do not at any time cut back on the size of the government.
NE Ohio. Nearby.
I’m sure Chicago is worse. Lol
This is clearly fake news because I’ve heard that ‘Bidenomics’ is booming.
Exactly.
I have been ASSURED repeatedly that the economy is great and Bidenomics has been the savior of America. All the economic experts agree.
I read an article at a financial site yesterday that had an interview of a couple that had to cut back a bit by canceling their $1000 yearly hedge-clipping service. They can still afford their European vacation so they weren’t complaining too much about having to do their own yard work (although they admitted the sacrifice was painful).
I’m not sure why so many businesses are closing. I guess that just got tired of “gauging” the American consumer and decided to take their billions and retire in the Bahamas.
In the past two months, a Bartell Drug Store and a Shari’s Restaurant closed down in my area. A nearby Walgreen’s has many empty shelves, so it may be next.
Amazon.com
When I go to Walmart and all the everyday products are locked up and it takes the one guy with a key 30 minutes to show up to unlock the cabinet, I shop Amazon next time.
Umpossible. We have been told this is the best economy ever even if we are too stupid to realize it. Just because people don’t have any money doesn’t mean Paul Krugman and Don Lemon are broke.
A number of large restaurant chains are going down for the
count. Some places I’ve frequented for forty years or more,
gone. Building back better? How about tearing down much
better?
This alone is making a lot fewer food choices available.
I could easily recite ten nice restaurants in my region
that have gone down. It’s not just in this last four years
either. Going back 15 years, we’re talking a lot of places
just not there anymore.
