Gun Registration in Sri Lanka Equals Gun Confiscation
AmmoLand ^ | October 8, 2024 | Dean Weingarten

The Sri Lankan government has issued a gun confiscation directive requiring all people with firearms and a permit to possess them for self-defense to turn the firearms, ammunition, and permits they possess to the military authorities. The firearms must be surrendered by November 7, 2024. From dailynews.lk:

The Ministry of Defense has decided to temporarily take back all firearms and ammunition issued to civilians for self defense.

According to the powers vested on the Defense Secretary by Section 6 (1) and 6 (2) of the 1916 Firearms Act No. 33, these firearms and ammunition issued to civilians for self defense are being retrieved to conduct a review on them and to consider on returning them back after the conclusion of the review.

“All license holders must return their firearms and ammunition to the government’s Commercial Explosives Storage Facility in Welisara before November 07, 2024”, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement issued.

Sri Lanka’s government does not acknowledge any private property rights to firearms.

Historically, “temporary” orders requiring people to turn in firearms tend to last for years, decades, or forever. The order does not extend to firearms “issued” for property protection, crop protection, or sports activities. From onlanka.com:

This language states that the firearms in question were “issued to civilians”. What exactly does that mean?

They’re going to “consider” returning them? Sure they are.

From my research, reading the statute and some background, people who have money and political pull in Sri Lanka apply to the Ministry of Defense to obtain a permit to possess a firearm. If the permit is approved, the person with the permit is allowed to purchase a firearm from the government. Ammunition is strictly limited. Sri Lanka became a Democratic socialist Republic in 1978 and has been becoming more authoritarian/totalitarian with time.

It appears the Democratic socialist Republic of Sri Lanka does not recognize property rights in firearms (or much of anything, in reality).

Not to worry. It is only temporary. Trust the government. Always. Or else.

We’re not Sri Lanka.

The day they try to confiscate them is the day those guns are for.

...people who have money and political pull in Sri Lanka... can obtain a permit to possess a firearm...

Ahh, I'm not surprised... Is this concept coming our way?

PROCON : (From the article)"Ammunition is strictly limited.
Sri Lanka became a Democratic socialist Republic in 1978
and has been becoming more authoritarian/totalitarian with time."

As I recall, it was Sri Lanka that first tried the WEF progrqm of using no chemical fertilizers in agriculture
.. - and agriculture went bankrupt.
I think that Sri Lanka is preparing the country to "go eat bugs" as their protein source, as what the WEF is trying to accomplish, and using Sri Lanka as a demonstration project.
Socialism's first response is to disarm the populace so as to impose the will of the government.

Of course.

Matter of fact, I’ll bet the dems own a lot of illegally gotten guns.

Laws are for the little people, you know.

Don’t forget the role of IEDs in any insurgency. Particularly those that generate self forging projectiles. BUT DON”T BUILD ANYTHING AHEAD OF TIME (unless you want to go to jail)

In my household, I have my great-grandfather’s 1880-1890 Belgium Henri Pieper double-barrel, 18-gauge rimfire shotgun on display above the fireplace. While I could use it to scare thieves away, it’s totally useless, as rimfire shells are no longer on the market.

Besides, the gun’s barrels back then had coiled structures instead of molded solids. It couldn’t handle many more fires before exploding in my face.

But if necessary, I am prepared to use it to whack any trespassing intruder in the head...
