President Biden said Thursday that the US is “discussing” the possibility of Israel bombing Iranian oil facilities as payback for a volley of nearly 200 rockets fired at the Jewish state on Tuesday — causing a spike in global crude prices.
Biden said the oil strike option was under consideration when asked directly by a reporter as he left the White House.
“We’re discussing that. I think that would be a little… anyway,” the retiring 81-year-old president said ...
Within 45 minutes of Biden’s remark, crude oil futures spiked to about $74 per barrel from its opening price of $70.10, before settling back to around $73.

If they can’t buy Iranian oil then they will uy elsewhere, raising prices everywhere.

I think that Israel’s response to Iran’s unprecedented attack against Israel will be a highly memorable one...
Lets not forget that we now know Iran specifically targeted Israel’s civilian nuclear plant. Yes, you read that right.
Luckily, that plant was particialty well protected, they managed to destroy those incoming ballistic missiles... Thus, the intent of Iran was to cause absolute havoc in Israel.
Israel’s response will be memorable.
China would have to adjust by buying from those suppliers to Europe. There are other Asian countries in the mix too, Japan, S. Korea, etc. Even if it doesn’t seem “connected”. most everything is.
I continue to maintain that Israel should take out Iran’s refined products capability. That goes mostly to domestic consumption. So, flatten their refineries, refined products IMPORT terminals, and any major refined products storage. No fuel - Iran grinds to a halt.
And, I should add, Iranian crude that was going to their refineries now has nowhere to go but export. If anything, that would cause a small drop in global prices.

That’s not “Z’s” fault. Global prices have been moderate in recent months, and it pretty much appears that if they had gone up markedly, various sources would have adjusted output upwards to take advantage of it. $70 appears to be the “global” break point. (It varies from country to country, of course!) Above $70, there is incentive to respond by producing more. Below $70, you may lose money, not be able to support your welfare state, or whatever.
If Bite Me had not continued emptying the reserve, the market would have most likely compensated anyway, months ago. The situation in 2024, so far, has proven to NOT be one that would drive prices over $100 / bbl, even without the SPR releases. Of course, being libs, with an election coming, Biden’s people probably figure that they have to try to steer the market anyway.
