The White House on Tuesday said the US believes Iran is preparing an imminent ballistic missile attack against Israel.

“The United States has indications that Iran is preparing to imminently launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel. We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack. A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran,” a senior White House official said in a statement.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have ratcheted up significantly in recent weeks as Israel has stepped up its efforts against Hezbollah in Lebanon, an Iran-backed militant group. Israel on Monday launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah.

Israel has been appealing directly to the Iranian people to overthrow the mullahs, and I have no doubt Mossad is stirring up dissent internally. Combine that with the mullahs witnessing every one of their proxies being rapidly ground into dust, and they might be thinking that they have to at least make a show of force to their people.

And that kind of thinking might have worked prior to October 7th of last year, but if they somehow think Israel won’t react this time by sending every one of them to meet their fictional 72 virgins (who, if there’s any justice, will all look like Helen Thomas), then they’re delusional. I suspect they’ll make a lot of bluster and then do little to nothing, but if they do decide to pull the tiger’s tail it will be entertaining to watch them suffer the consequences.
