Delta passengers left with burst eardrums and bleeding noses after flight from Utah to Portland suddenly plummets

Delta Airlines passengers were left with burst eardrums and bleeding noses after their flight suddenly lost pressure.

Passengers aboard a flight from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Portland, Oregon, felt the cabin lose pressure before the plane rapidly descended, according to KSL.

'I looked over at my husband, and he had both of his hands over his ears, you know, kind of leaning forward,' flier Caryn Allen told the outlet.

Allyn added that she 'looked about a row behind me, over on the other side of the aisle, and there was a gentleman that clearly had a very bad bloody nose, and people were trying to help him.'

Another fellow passenger Jaci Purser told KSL it felt like her ear was being stabbed from all of the pressure in the cabin, revealing that she 'grabbed my ear, and I pulled my hand back, and there was blood on it'.

Delta Airlines wrote in a statement that the Boeing 737-900 aircraft had to return to Salt Lake City because of pressurization issues. The plane landed at 8:30am on Sunday and paramedics were waiting to treat those who were hurt.

Ten people needed medical treatment or evaluation from the paramedics when they got off the flight.

Purcer added that once the flight landed, she was diagnosed with a ruptured eardrum. Paramedics gave her antibiotics, nasal spray steroids and decongestants.

In a statement, Delta Air Lines said the aircraft was put back into service on Monday.

The airline said: 'We sincerely apologize to our customers for their experience on flight 1203 on September 15. The flight crew followed procedures to return to SLC where our teams on the ground supported our customers with their immediate needs.'

What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm gonna try with a little help from my friends

Will the ear drums heal afterwards?

What?!

I had the same experience as a child, until I got my tonsils removed. The earaches went away immediately, but I’m partially deaf in both ears due to it.

I had ear infections as a young child. I remember the warm oil and cotton ball and heating pad to the ear. The fever. Sleeping on the sofa with the parents watching me. The funny popping sound as the infection came through the ear drum and the then cessation of fever.

When I was a bit older there was this orange flavored antibiotic, but treatment was still the same.

How many thousand feet did it plummet and why did it lose cabin pressure?

So much for flying in general and newer 737s in particular.

In the late 70s, the SLC a/p was among the greatest.

Denver’s current airport is far from downtown Denver (Stapleton we miss you)
SLC’s airport is basically in the center of the metro area. It has been remodeled but it is a LONG walk from the gates to the main terminal (especially if you don’t come in on Delta)

How do you unclog clogged ears? Years ago never had a problem with ears on flights; now stopped flying because of intense pain. I have tried literally everything , and nothing really works. Do planes not equalize pressure anymore?

I once worked with someone who had just had his ears cleaned of wax, and it made a hole in the eardrum. When he returned to work, he passed out in his chair at the office. It was a scary moment.

I had one that was so badly torn that the doctor put in a “cigarette paper” patch to support it until it healed. I broke it again years later when I was snorkeling, and it healed up OK. Seems to work OK now, forty years later, although my wife prefers that I use headphones instead of my good speakers.

“SLC is the creepiest airport I’ve ever been to.”

It certainly has a different vibe.

“Stews” were, on average, MUCH better looking to boot.

How far we have fallen.
