Delta Airlines passengers were left with burst eardrums and bleeding noses after their flight suddenly lost pressure.
Passengers aboard a flight from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Portland, Oregon, felt the cabin lose pressure before the plane rapidly descended, according to KSL.
'I looked over at my husband, and he had both of his hands over his ears, you know, kind of leaning forward,' flier Caryn Allen told the outlet.
Allyn added that she 'looked about a row behind me, over on the other side of the aisle, and there was a gentleman that clearly had a very bad bloody nose, and people were trying to help him.'
Another fellow passenger Jaci Purser told KSL it felt like her ear was being stabbed from all of the pressure in the cabin, revealing that she 'grabbed my ear, and I pulled my hand back, and there was blood on it'.
Delta Airlines wrote in a statement that the Boeing 737-900 aircraft had to return to Salt Lake City because of pressurization issues. The plane landed at 8:30am on Sunday and paramedics were waiting to treat those who were hurt.
Ten people needed medical treatment or evaluation from the paramedics when they got off the flight.
Purcer added that once the flight landed, she was diagnosed with a ruptured eardrum. Paramedics gave her antibiotics, nasal spray steroids and decongestants.
In a statement, Delta Air Lines said the aircraft was put back into service on Monday.
The airline said: 'We sincerely apologize to our customers for their experience on flight 1203 on September 15. The flight crew followed procedures to return to SLC where our teams on the ground supported our customers with their immediate needs.'

Is Delta the airline that’s full plummet ahead with DEI?
Passengers plummeted? But no the plane?
They look glad they at least walked away from the landing...
I believe that would be United Airlines.
Apologize?
How about pay medical bills?
At least.
thanks
SLC is the creepiest airport I’ve ever been to.
Yeah, no kidding 🤦♀️
Since they’re smiling they should be charged more for the experience.
Or maybe they’re smiling because they’re thinking of the lawsuit.
Lawsuit time!
Pain and suffering, fear of flying, lost wages while recovering, etc!
In military pilot training, students are taken to simulated high altitudes in a chamber (inside - high pressure as when on land). The chamber then rapidly evacuates the air to create a pressurization failure). We are taught to simply not try to hold our air in and let the pressures equalize. The only time that rapid depressurization is a problem is when the ears are clogged. Not making an excuse for the plane’s pressurization failure. Since the plane was a Boeing, the comments will blame the plane, but given maintenance of all types lately, I’d hold judgement.
Will the ear drums heal afterwards?
My eardrum broke when I was a child. It’s excruciating pain. I find it strange these two are smiling.
Correct. Heard about it, now that you mention it. Might be a contender.
Like every other “pubic space,” they’re all making my skin crawl lately.
Eardrums will usually heal OK from “barotrauma” like this. “Usually” being the operative word.
I did that at Andrews many, many years ago, all the moisture in the air turns to fog instantly when the pressure drops
this. about the worst pain I can recall.
