BEIRUT, Sept 17 – Hundreds of members of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, including fighters and medics, were seriously wounded on Tuesday when the pagers they use to communicate exploded, a security source told Reuters.
A Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the “biggest security breach” the group had been subjected to in nearly a year of war with Israel.
A Reuters journalist saw ambulances rushing through the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut amid widespread panic. Residents said explosions were taking place even 30 minutes after the initial blasts.
Groups of people huddled at the entrance of buildings to check on people they knew who may have been wounded, the Reuters journalist said.

The answer is most likely in your question. Specially designed, and charged with an explosive like PETN. Supposedly built by a company in Hungary, under license by a Taiwanese company to build the pagers. Compromised by anti-Hezbollah infiltrators who planted the PETN prior to shipment to Hezbollah. There are various underground articles on how to manufacture these explosives, which will explode if exposed to heat or violent force. Must be kept cool while handling. Speculation that special software required to trigger the battery to overheat and set off the explosive charge. Don’t know how that is done, somehow a massive drain on the battery to cause it to overheat. Will be interesting to find out how it’s done.

“The Taiwanese company Gold Apollo had contracted with a company called B.A.C. Consulting in Hungary to manufacture the pagers. B.A.C. Consulting was one of three shell companies that Israel created to mask the true manufacturer of the communications equipment: Israeli intelligence.
B.A.C. Consulting created real pagers for numerous customers to create the perception of a legitimate company in order to get picked up for the contract to produce the pagers for Hezbollah.
The pagers manufactured for Hezbollah were separate from those made for other clients, the report said. The pagers that Hezbollah received “contained batteries laced with the explosive PETN” and began shipping in 2022, the report said.
After the first round of explosions on Tuesday, Israel struck again on Wednesday, detonating Hezbollah’s backup communications equipment: walkie-talkies.”
