NLRB Orders Starbucks to Reopen Two Closed Ithaca Locations

National Labor Relations Board Administrative Law Judge Geoffrey Carter ordered Starbucks to reopen “within a reasonable period of time” two Ithaca locations that closed after employees formed a union, stating that its move to “chill unionism” violated the National Labor Relations Act.

Carter ruled on Friday that the May 2023 permanent closures of the Ithaca Commons and Meadow Street Starbucks locations and failure to bargain with the union were unlawful, as the board found the stores were closed for “antiunion reasons” and in an effort to quell unionizations elsewhere.

The NLRB similarly ordered on July 6, 2023, that the third Ithaca Starbucks location on College Avenue — which closed on June 10, 2022 — must reopen “immediately.” The store remains closed.

Discussions surrounding the Ithaca Commons and Meadow Street store closures occurred only a few months after the stores unionized. On April 8, 2022, all three Ithaca stores voted to unionize. In the summer of 2022, Starbucks regional leadership began weighing the closure of the Meadow Street and Ithaca Commons locations, citing high turnover and low profitability metrics, according to the NLRB ruling.

Ain’t it grand we live in a free country? In Communist China or somewhere like that people would be bossed around.
We say to each other “Aw, go ahead. It’s a free country.”

/S

The late folk singer Pete Seeger. “In 1936, at the age of 17, Pete Seeger joined the Young Communist League (YCL), then at the height of its influence. In 1942, he became a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) itself, but he left in 1949.”
At the HUAC televised hearings he was asked if he was a Communist. “That’s not the right question to ask me. You should be asking....” and never admitted it. Later, he said “I left the Communist Party. I’m through with it. I don’t need it any longer.”

He said: “The current Democratic Party fills all the needs now. When I was a Communist I supported strong labor unions, power for black people in civil rights, the end of destroying the environment, women’s rights including for abortions and all the rest. As a Democrat today you don’t need Communism.”

So when will the NLRB order Walmarts to rehire all the butchers they fired when they tried to unionize?

It happened right here near where I live, Jacksonville, TX. The butchers there tried to form a union and Wally World not only closed them down, but nationally. Henceforth contracting their meat in.

They get away with too much. I guess the “Too Big To Fail” engulfs them too!

Didn’t Scotus recently rule there is no such thing as an “administrative” law judge?

Yes this is stunning. They can require a business to operate at a certain location?

There comes a point where they can “order” all they want.

That only works when people obey and comply.

The day that that stops is rapidly approaching

Yep- they need to wish in one hand and 💩 in the other and see what fills up first.

They should have gone to work, done their JOB, collected their paychecks and gone home with nary a sound.

Too bad, so sad.

People are being forced to operate businesses against their will?

That sure sounds like slavery to me.

Brilliant!! Once again an administrative agency sets up a legal test of its own legitimacy.

These are Starbucks people that are doing this. Starbucks supports and votes for this kind of action.

So will the Starbucks owners continue to vote for liberals?

Of course they will as they are ignorant.

Yes, you are exactly right. Better to happen to them than to Market Basket, Walmart, Dunkin Donuts, Chic a Filet, Hobby Lobby,

But we cannot celebrate actions that we are hoping to stop with a candidate like Trump

“ Many already are working 12 hour shifts.”
Exactly! Many already work their butts off. The worst was during the covid outbreak. In the first 2 months, I and another guy had t o work 17 days straight because we never got covid and there was no one else to work. It was horrendous. Had to fully decontaminate before going home. Some days we didn’t even go home. Once during that time, I had to work 24 hours.
If the government tries to mess with physicians and nurses, they will quit and find jobs in the private sector where clinics are run by physicians and not hospital systems beholding to the government.

Pure Communists - absolutely everything in God’s creation belongs to the State. These Communists are now throughout the federal government.
