Wife Shoots Husband at Opelika Bar Sunday Morning, Officials Say

An Opelika woman is charged with domestic violence and assault following a Lee County shooting that left a man injured.
38-year-old Heather Manning allegedly shot her husband at 169 Bar and Grill. She was arrested and faces the following charges:
According to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones, deputies arrived at the restaurant around 1:30 a.m. CST on Sept. 1 and found a 45-year-old male who had been shot in the abdomen in the parking lot.
Jones said Manning was with the victim and identified as the shooter. The victim’s name has not been released.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. There is no word on his condition.
According to Jones, a 40-caliber handgun was recovered from the scene.
Restaurant officials did comment on the incident on their social media page.

Elmore Leonard novels such as Killshot remind us to make sure with the “killshot” so the person doesn’t get “treated at the hospital” and then get sympathy in court later.

I stumbled across my first Elmore Leonard stories only last year. I read The Complete Western Stories of Elmore Leonard, all 544 pages. I fully enjoyed about 95% of that book.
I read it over a course of weeks, here and there, as the mood struck. What a storytellers he was. His descriptions of the terrain, the people and their pace of life.
His later stories, most centered around city life, and dope smugglers? I didn’t get into those at all! Not the people, not the dialog. But, apparently many others did. Several of those stories became films. He must have written constantly, even after becoming famous.
