WASHINGTON (AP) — Worries of being uprooted from their jobs have returned for Laura Dodson and other federal workers, who have long been the economic backbone of the nation’s capital and its suburbs.

During former President Donald Trump ‘s administration, her office under the U.S. Department of Agriculture was told it would be moving. About 75 people were going to be relocated to Kansas City, Missouri....

The proposals to move a large number of federal workers infuriate local leaders in the suburbs of Washington in both Maryland and Virginia...

... Campante said it also has a downside....“I think it is a positive factor for accountability that you have civil servants also operating as a check on political appointees, and this would be weakened ...

I spent a lot of time in Northern Virginia, High School about 10 years in DC in the 90s, believe me there’s a lot of people who live there that don’t want to be there. But that’s what the work is. It’s almost recession proof, except the taxes have gone through the roof and they’re kind of stuck. But I guarantee that if the federal government is going to relocate portions of its operation, those people will be given the opportunity to go with those operations and they will be compensated. In that regard, this article is complete BS.

Unless Virginia decides to have an electoral College Northern Virginia is always going to weigh heavily on Election cycles, and the citizens and the rest of the state will always be or continue to be disenfranchised because of it.

The same thing happens in the Chicago area or New York City area, and the people that live in the outlying portions of those states too have felt disenfranchised for decades.

I would love to see housing prices collapse in Rome-on-the-Potomac and surrounding areas.

It is an outrage in once free republic that government is the surest path to wealth.

If I was offered a Fed job but told I could choose Alaska or DC area...I’d jump at Alaska. Maybe that’s why I’m a FReeper.

First off, let’s get this straight, they are NOT Federal “workers”, they are Federal employees subservient to the democrat party. The last thing they do is work unless it’s to undermine a republican administration.

Most of them are Marxist subversives, especially the ones living in Washington DC and Maryland.

“I’d jump at Alaska.”

Smart. My 20 years there were the “funnest” and best. (I left 30 years ago and understand that a lot has changed, and not for the better.)

A better relocation would be to Adak Island in the Aleutian Islands. The weather there is always nasty. There is zero cultural activity there to distract those “dedicated” federal workers. It is the perfect spot for them to continue to do nothing all day long, inside, while endless rain blows sideways in buckets outside. They won’t have a stressful commute to work either!

Absolutely. I remember the ‘50s well, and it seems that the ‘60s started a serious decline in civilization, ethics, etc.

The “elsewhere” Trump needs to send the vast vast majority of them is the unemployment line.

What remains of the vastly scaled down federal bureaucracies needs to be scattered to small town America....Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma, in short, America. Get them far far away from K Street and all the corruption of the DC Swamp.

Step 1: First fire half the leeches on the federal payroll.
Step 2: Relocate half of what remains out to the hinterlands to work among their real employers.

You can’t fire these people but you can transfer them (Alaska and Guam sound like good places). If they don’t like it, they can quit.

Better yet, just defund their departments. "Oh you still have a job, there's just no money in the budget to pay you......"

I can’t say whether it’s a cause, effect, or just a correlation, but before every empire collapsed, their civil service grew fantastically large compared to their income. The Ottomans, the Romans, and a plethora of middle eastern kingdoms...all grew a fat civil service just before they collapsed. In China the civil servants became richer than the richest merchants. Civil servants have gone from being helpful to leeches, taking but giving little back.

I remember when Reagan managed to shut down a federal department. A former employee was interviewed. He said, “I have no idea what I’m going to do. I’ve never had an actual job.”

Siberia or outer Mongolia would be waaaaayyyyyy much better choices, but I guess they gotta be within the jurisdiction of the USA. So yeah....upper Alaska or Guam, but Guam would probably tip over from all the crap.....LOL....I miss the “milk duds”.
