WASHINGTON (AP) — Worries of being uprooted from their jobs have returned for Laura Dodson and other federal workers, who have long been the economic backbone of the nation’s capital and its suburbs.
During former President Donald Trump ‘s administration, her office under the U.S. Department of Agriculture was told it would be moving. About 75 people were going to be relocated to Kansas City, Missouri....
The proposals to move a large number of federal workers infuriate local leaders in the suburbs of Washington in both Maryland and Virginia...
... Campante said it also has a downside....“I think it is a positive factor for accountability that you have civil servants also operating as a check on political appointees, and this would be weakened ...

Datapoints from the article:
The District of Columbia has the largest number of federal civilian employees, with about 160,700 jobs...Maryland and Virginia are in the top four jurisdictions, with about 138,940 in Maryland and 140,400 in Virginia. California has about 142,040.
They need to see the hell they bring on to everyone.
>>”Campante has it backwards - we don’t want career civil servants acting with impunity. We want our ‘political appointees’ (our CongressCritters) running checks and balances on them.”
Exactly!
Yup! Yer fired!
Amen!
The employment list is so large and extensive over Virginia and Maryland that state issues and national voting can be affected by them. IT’s a situation that should never have been allowed to exist.
You can’t fire these people but you can transfer them (Alaska and Guam sound like good places). If they don’t like it, they can quit.
The article points out that in the first Trump administration 40 employees of the Dept. of Agriculture were relocated from Washington. Hardly an amount worth getting into an uproar about. But articles like this are written to out of fear that Trump may win Virginia this time around.
Besides all of that, those who are complaining about the possibility of federal employee relocations during a second Trump administration are suffering from a misunderstanding. They appear to believe that the country’s role is to serve federal employees rather than the other way around.
being transferred around the country is a common tactic to jump their pay.
pay rates ONLY go up... never down.
move from washdc to kentucky... no pay increase... live like a king on your original washdc salary
move from kentucky back to washdc 4 yrs later... HUGE cost of living bump.
Some of the wealthiest zip codes in the nation are clustered about DC... Not only are there lots of these folks they also get paid very well for very little.
This is an attempt by AP to influence the elections in Virginia and Maryland in favor of Harris. Some polls show Trump in striking distance of winning Virginia, while Maryland has a competitive senate race.
When I came to Northern Virginia about 45 years ago, the suburban DC counties of Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun were solid Republican. Now solid democrat, combined with a population explosion. As a result, Virginia has gone from solid red to largely blue, including in the senate races and the local congressional delegation.

That just doesn’t make a lick of sense, because more than 90% of the agriculture in America happens inside the DC city limits. Corn, potatoes, beef, poultry: they are all grown right there in Washington DC. Why else would the USDA be headquartered there? All the farming expertise is clustered In the nation’s capital.
And there ladies and gentlemen is the true deep state.
Alaska sounds good. They can mush from Point Barrow, through blizzard of snow, they can pull into Fairbanks, the city is a boon. They can take a little stroll to the Red Dog Saloon. When it’s springtime in Alaska, it’s 40 below. Johnny Horton. 😀
Thank you for letting us know DC is an agriculture powerhouse!
I understand better now the old adage “the more you sow tax money, the more you reap bureaucrats”.
Shifting them around has numerous advantages, one of which is diluting their voting power. Imagine Fairfax county VA becoming a saner place to live!
Look: Dept of Agriculture should have a sizeable presence where there is actual agriculture, for example.
Deep state’s butt’s hurt. Should someone kiss it and make it all better?
We’ve been paying for these drones for decades. They want to be part of the Washington elite.
