The FBI has released the first photos of the AR-15 rifle that Thomas Matthew Crooks used in his attempt to kill former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania last month. The images show that Crooks — a 20-year-old gun nut — broke down the semi-automatic DPMS DR-15 rifle into two pieces and stowed it in a black SwissGear backpack as he made his way through the Butler, Pa. rally crowd. A closer look at the weapon reveals an approximately three-inch chunk missing from the gun’s buttstock, which could be where the police sniper’s bullet struck before the Secret Service sniper finished Crooks off with a headshot. “Thomas Crooks’ rifle broken down as was likely done for transport and the backpack recovered onsite,” The FBI captioned the bombshell new image. A separate photo showed the rifle fully assembled and positioned next to a ruler, which pegs its length at around 36 inches from stock to barrel. The gun’s receiver has been scrawled with some white markings, which the FBI notes it had drawn on the weapon. It was known from previous reporting that the rifle had been purchased by Crooks’ father a decade ago. The agency also released images of two improvised explosive devices in the trunk of Crooks’ car — with the receiver enabling remote detonation set in the “off” position. The bureau said the devices had “several problems with the way they were constructed.” One of the homemade bombs was built inside what looks to be a green ammo can, a wire leading out the back is haphazardly taped to the side of the container and connected to a small device that appears to be equipped with a small antenna. The trunk also contains another backpack, a laptop bag, and a spray bottle filled with a clear liquid.

I disagree. It’s a quality but minimal build. $500 Aero upper. $500 optic. 45 degree iron sights. Hammer looks polished. Pedestrian BCG but really can’t tell. Stock is minimal and upgraded A2 to magpul grip. It’s a 1500 to 2k gun rather than a value PSA build on a teenage budget. The choice of 45 degree iron sights is interesting.
I think it’s daddy’s range toy. Probably used on 25-50 yard targets. But it looks like daddy has good tastes.

I wouldn’t characterize anything firing 5.56 as a “hundred yard weapon.” If that scope has a 2 moa dot, all he has to do is cover his target, and if he gets off a clean shot, physics takes over.
The entire case was intentionally flooded with disinformation.
First, they said he used his father’s gun.
Later, they reported that he bought the gun used from his father.
Then Wray testified he was looking into whether Trump was hit with a bullet. He offered that up, unprompted.

FIBber photos from the scene of the crime would be convincing that they’re showing true crime evidence, letting the public see for themselves the surroundings of the artifacts at the time of discovery. These are staged and antiseptic photos, something set up for the record. If they were willing to let the chips fall where they may, they could have released crime scene photos weeks ago, but they seem to want total control over appearances.
The trunk shot is suspicious ... what 20 year old has a perfectly clean trunk? Well, I guess if your apartment is perfectly clean with no trash or silverware, maybe that’s possible.
I like the way the same azhos who set up Trump at Butler, PA set him up in Arlington with a bunch of phony “veteran” azhos looking to become famous trashing Trump for their plantation massahs. What a crock.
I love how the MSM describes this as a collapsible stock.
There was a report the other day about how one of the local LEO had fired at Crooks, but the bullet hit the stock of Crooks’ rifle. Not seeing any evidence of that in the photo. Am curious if the report was faulty, or if the rifle is just representative.

You can see the chunk taken out with the stock extended. When collapsed, you can see the buffer tube through the hole in the stock - it’s not supposed to be there.
