BUENOS AIRES, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Argentine authorities have quarantined a cargo ship in the Parana River over a suspected case of mpox onboard, the government said on Tuesday, as global public health authorities remain on alert for a new faster-spreading variant of the virus.
The quarantined Liberian-flagged ship was sailing from Santos, Brazil - also a major commodities hub - to pick up soy cargo, according to the health ministry and industry body the Argentine Naval League.
The World Health Organization (WHO) last week declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years as a new variant of the virus spread rapidly in Africa. A day later, a case of the clade 1b variant was confirmed in Sweden, the first sign of its spread outside Africa.
The ship near Argentina's inland grains port of Rosario alerted authorities that "one of its crew members of Indian nationality showed cyst-like skin lesions predominantly on the chest and face," the ministry said in a statement, adding the person had been isolated from the rest of the crew.

Here it comes. Here’s how the Dems are going to cheat.
You wouldnt think Argentina has the government resources to do something like this what with the chainsaw that Milei took to the government budget *pearl clutch*
Yup. GRAB YOUR ANKELS BOYS AND GIRLS!!
Get this bit...
...All tested kits are currently intended for research use only and clinical performance still needs to be assessed in more detail, but all were suitable for diagnostics of monkeypox virus, with variations in specificity rather than sensitivity...
IOW, same grift, different day.
Was the homo swimming in the grain hold?
FR tends to be hyper-focused on America, but around the world they are already planning for lockdowns due to mpox.
I am dreading it because I really cannot go through another round of insanity.
Many in the ‘prepper’ circles are already moving to top off their stuff. It feels like it did in November of 2019. Except this time they are already finding this “variant” shows signs of having ‘gain of function’ attributes(see reports from June of this year).
“ship was sailing... to pick up soy cargo”
Well, in that case, carry on. The soy people love some monkeypox.
“BOHICA!”
Ironically, that’s about the only way you can get Monkey Pox.
That’s the way most cases in the outbreak, which cased the woke to rename it from Monkeypox to Mpox, were acquired. But it can also be acquired from infected animals. The first US case was imported on a Gambian Giant Rat, which infected a Prairie Dog at a animal handling facility (in Chicago IIRC) and which was then adopted by a family in Wisconsin and infected some of the family. That can still happen, but isn’t likely to produce large outbreak in the west. Whereas routine gay male social behavior can expand one random exposure into a sizable outbreak.
I’m dreading it because it’ll turn up in my hospital’s ER as Covid and everything else does.
There are boatloads of Third Worlders who are staff, and they’re always going back and forth to the old country, and patients from Third World and Second World carp holes.
We’ve been turned into a Motel 6 for the whole freakin’ world.
They are quarantine g shipments and protecting their people.

Not this time around Clade 1&1b are not the same bug as the last mpox. Clade 1 spreads by simple skim to skin contact no sex needed it’s more contagious than Clade II. in the hotzone 80+% of the infected are persons under 18 and 60% are under 15 I seriously doubt they are doing lots of gaystuff in schools in the DRC. Africa needs to get control of the spread before it takes a foot hold in schools in the first world. Kids are nasty they drool, pick and touch everything it’s little wonder a virus spread by shedding scabs, fluids, even dried fluids would spread in school settings. Towels cloths and bed sheets spread it too. Think about a gym locker room where the towel bin is handled by groups of kids.
