Vance is one of the least popular vice-presidential picks this century.
It's important to make a good first impression — whether you're on a first date, interviewing for a job or running to be vice president of the United States. And the two men who recently joined the Republican and Democratic presidential tickets have made very different first impressions.
According to 538's new polling average of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's favorable and unfavorable ratings, the Democratic candidate for vice president has an unusual quality for a modern politician: He's well liked. As of Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. Eastern, 38 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of him, and 33 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him.
Democrats' initial branding of Walz — as a paternal former teacher, coach and National Guardsman — seems to have caught on, especially immediately after he was announced as Vice President Kamala Harris's running mate, when multiple polls found him with a double-digit positive net favorability rating (favorable rating minus unfavorable rating). Since then, his unfavorable rating has risen a bit faster than his favorable rating as Republicans have accused him of exaggerating his military service, but he still has a solid +5-point net favorability rating on average.
By contrast, Americans aren't vibing with the Republican vice-presidential nominee. On average, only 33 percent have a favorable opinion of Sen. JD Vance, while 42 percent have an unfavorable one.

ABC News, splains this BS article.
I was voting for Palin, not McCain, when I voted for that ticket. Had McCain picked Joe Lieberman, his first choice, as his running mate, I would have gone fishing on Election Day.
She was not pretty or smart. She could not even win a Congressional seat after her stupidity was exposed.
By contrast JD is a Yale Law grad who worked himself up from poverty and can put together a coherent paragraph.
JD has been relentlessly attacked by MSM because they view him as a significant threat to assume leadership of the MAGA movement whether Trump wins or loses. Plus they hate the idea that the American dream is alive and true (which runs completely contrary to their socialist ideals).
He’s personable and gorgeous.
The media...especially ABC...suck.
ABC is nothing more than a propaganda operation. Every news report on the 00 or 30, contains a propaganda piece about how the economy is improving, Trump makes claim “without evidence”, Kamela is sweeping, etc. I used to think the local ABC affiliate were blameless, but I saw a local puff piece on the “Democrat Socialists of America”.
Even the local ABC outlet is a democrat propaganda outlet!
Mega dittoes.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOohhhhh!!!
Polls.
How cute.
JD Vance is my favorite of the four people running for executive office this year.
Palin was the only reason I voted for that idiot McCain. He was a media pick to make conservatives loose.
I’m not surprised, the media are experts at manipulating public opinion.
Don’t get me wrong, I voted for them, later supported Palin. Vance is so much better a candidate that I don’t see them comparable.
This isn’t surprising he was a relatively unknown first term senator. The more he’s out there the more popular he will be. Unlike Palin he can speak off the cuff and articulate his point of view. Walz on the other hand has stolen valor and tampon tim claims that just came to light since he was just nominated
ABC is the network of Brian Roberts look up that name and realize they have and will never change that’s why most people write off what they say anyway
She was the only reason I voted for him.
He was a RINO squish.
She was a dynamic conservative.
My mistake Brian Ross
“Democrats’ initial branding of Walz...seems to have caught on”
Seems to have caught on? Couldn’t have anything to do with the non-stop North Korea-level, love-fest propaganda coming out of the media, could it? Sure, the Democrat’s message just “caught on.” The media is running the Harris-Walz campaign for them, and Trump and Vance and everyone on our side needs to start calling them out for this constantly, so more people notice the manipulation.
The legacy media is certainly not dead. If I’ve learned anything this past couple of months is that the legacy media is an insanely powerful force still, far more than I could have guessed. They were the ones who initially turned on Biden, whom they previously had propped up in stunning ways. They got the donors to dump him, and the donors got the party leaders to dump him. Then the media has single-handedly turned the current VP and former Senator into an entirely new person with no record of radicalism and failure to account for—and it’s working! Lots of people believe them, even as they blatantly turn into North Korean propagandists.
No, the legacy propaganda media is the greatest destructive force we currently have in this country.
Such BS.
Yes, Palin was unpopular with the swing voters that decided the 2008 election.
But the reason for that was the MSM making up stuff about her and amplifying any errors she made far beyond what was reasonable.
Why did they do that?
Because McCain was dull as dishwater until Palin came around. They knew the Palin pick would motivate Republicans.
So to beat that, they had to convince the SNL watchers and lesser informed swing voters that she was so terrible that it would be dangerous to put her “a heart beat away from the Presidency”.
And it worked.
Now, while Vance was not my first pick, they are playing a similar game with him. This time because Trump was ahead. They are literally making up stuff about him having sex with couches and reposting high school yearbook photos (that make total sense in context) as evidence that he’s ‘weird”. It’s being partially successful. Not the “weird” label, which I think is some buzzword the Dems are using this cycle due to bad advice from someone. But some of the lies are working and catching on.
Make sure that when defending him you don’t fall for those lies. I’ve seen FReepers unknowingly repeat the couch stuff as if it were a true story. It’s not. Totally made up.
The media convinced people who were not paying attention that JD hates women, because he made a sarcastic comment about “childless cat ladies” and is pro-natalist. They then spent more days covering this absolutely nothing of an “issue” than they spent covering President Trump almost being murdered. That’s literally the one and only reason they’ve convinced a lot of people they should find “weird” JD Vance bad. (It is a reminder, though, that we are living in deeply immoral times...)
It was McStain that was unpopular - not Palin
