What Happens Now That Joe Biden Quit Race? DNC Process Explained
Newsweek ^ | July 21, 2024 | Katherine Fung

…According to the Democratic National Committee rules, the party's delegates would still meet as scheduled for a virtual roll call to vote for who they think should be the nominee.

What If Democrats Don't Choose Harris?

Because Harris wouldn't just immediately become the nominee, there's a chance that another candidate is picked.

The Democratic Party's delegates could choose another candidate that they see as giving the party a better chance against Trump in November.

Other high-profile Democrats floated as possibly stronger alternatives to Harris include California Governor Gavin Newsom and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. But they have said that they would not run for the Oval Office in 2024.

What If There's a Contested Convention? There is also a possibility that no candidate wins a majority on the roll call. If this happens, more than 700 "superdelegates" will also vote in a subsequent ballot. The process would continue until a candidate wins a simple majority.

"Superdelegates" consist of the senior party leaders and elected officials who automatically become delegates to the convention based on their positions. They are not allowed to vote on the first ballot, per DNC rules, but can vote on subsequent ballots.

Running for president and losing, and then running again has not been something that that has happened since Nixon in 1968. (Donald Trump notwithstanding). Losing to Trump would not be good for your resume. Newsome and Whitmer no doubt realize this. That is why only people who may never get another shot at this would be interested. This is Harris, Hillary, maybe Bernie Sanders, and Big Mike. I mean Big Mike doesn't want to go through a two year election process, but 100 days...?

Funny how RFK Jr's name never comes up.

> This is Hillary’s last chance. <

You can be sure she’s thinking about that, and making a few phone calls.
After all, it’s her turn. Again.

I’m guessing the chances of “Heels up Harris” will start to fade if their media does not come up with gushing stories about how wonderful and historic she is within the next 72 hours.

No debates at all - at least until 1) the DNC has actually ‘nominated’ someone, and 2) a House Select Committee investigating the Secret Service’s performance/role in Trump’s assassination attempt has begun.

If it's hillary, she will have the cheats to win.

If it's kamala, they plan on letting her lose 1) so they can not have to be exposed cheating for two consecutive cycles and 2) they plan on "winning by losing", by destroying the country with 24/7 rioting, crime, and every type of chaos to officially tank a trump presidency.

Predicted Biden would drop out IMMEDIATELY after his failed debate performance, granted I said he'd have dropped out by Friday (two days ago.)

So here's my new prediction: CONTESTED CONVENTION. Once the Democrats realize how bad they've screwed the pooch with the #DEI VP who checked a box for the hapless Joe Biden, they won't have a choice but to toss her over and go to a contested convention.

#Make1968GreatAgain in #Chicago.

Just sayin'.

They would not do this unless they had this all resolved. Harris is the next Chauncey Gardener.

No one will challenge Harris. Anyone interested in the job knows that 2028 will be the time to run. There’s not enough time to get organized in the battleground states. Harris will be taking over all that Biden has in place.
