CNN said yesterday that Crooks told his job that he would not be coming in on Saturday, that he had something “Very important to do” and that he would be back on Sunday..so this schmuck actually believed that he would be leaving that rally alive..that was his mindset

He wasn’t absent a short time, it took an hour to drive to the rally and was seen at the metal detector at 3pm with the rangefinder. So he had to have left home before 2 if he stopped for ammo and a ladder. The shooting wasn’t until 6:11 so he was clearly gone 5 or 6 hours by that time.

Yes, it would have put him on a watch list the Secret Service would have reviewed.
Or he just told them that so it wouldn’t alert them that anything was amiss. I doubt very much that he was planning to go back to work.
He was probably more interested in the “fame and glory” of taking out the left’s Enemy Number One, and suicide by Secret Service, and didn’t want anyone from work calling his house or phone that day.
