On Sunday, “CBS Mornings” co-host Tony Dokoupil reported from the site of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and said that 2024 Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump’s slogan that people aren’t after him, but are after his supporters and he’s in the way is “the kind of rhetoric we’re all going to be analyzing in the days ahead about how we got here and how those words now hit differently this morning.”
CBS News Chief Political Analyst and Senior National Correspondent John Dickerson asked, “Did anybody say, we’ve got to reach out a hand, or was there a reaction that surprised you in terms of trying to lower the boil? Everybody named precisely this moment we’re in, did anyone say, here’s what we need to do to lower the temperature?”

Wait a minute. Is he blaming Trump for provoking the assassination attempt? That’s what it sounds like to me.
Blaming the shootee rather than the shooter.
Yeah, whatever.
This has nothing to do with it. This is a distraction. This is what criminals do. Blame the victim.
This doesn’t make sense at all for a great deal of reasons, not the least of which is that it indicates that apparently they want to murder all of us if we follow this logic to its ultimate conclusion.
Of course it is also in extremely bad taste and disgusting to suggest a former and likely future President deserved to be assassinated.
“Did anybody say, we’ve got to reach out a hand, or was there a reaction that surprised you in terms of trying to lower the boil? Everybody named precisely this moment we’re in, did anyone say, here’s what we need to do to lower the temperature?”
Incoherent.
This?
This is what CBS chooses to cover?
The Democrat Party Organized Crime Syndicate has a propaganda arm that includes CBS.
Good boy! Good boy, CBS.
You must be so proud to serve your criminal masters.
We got here starting with Obama then a blatantly stolen election followed by every crazy unamerican idea, policy, law, demonization of the normies etc...that the Dems have been salivating over for years.
Reap....sow.... what comes next they will not enjoy.
The “Trump faked the attack” thing is all over the left-wing media. They all believe it.
That makes no sense at all.
What would make sense would be if Biden said, “Trump’s not after me. He’s after you,” and the shooter thought Trump was after him.
Just like blame the victim for dressing all sexy, she should have expected to get raped. He is running against the Democrats he should expect to be killed. I’m sure he knew it was coming but probably didn’t expect it right then. The snipers behind him gave him a false sense of safety. They were just window dressing.
All you heard was, “Please don’t be angry with us. It’s on you to be forgiving.”
And that useless traitor McCain ran the weakest campaign. The little dwarf threw the race.
Deranged Leftist hallucinating propagandist alert! Code Red!
These people are scum. They are ignoring the OBVIOUS fact that the left’s years of calling Trump “Hitler” and a “dictator” and a “fascist” who will arrest homosexuals, deny blacks the right to vote, and imprison his political opponents is not something that might incite a potential assassin.
Who in the right mind would trust a 20-year to shoot your ear from 130 yards away? I read that the bullets the assassin used typically have a 3 inch spread at that distance so there’s no way to accurately shoot close without probably killing Trump. They’re just throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks
It started under Dubya and the Patriot Act after 9/11 to deal with the WOT. Then Edward Snowden said "Wait a minute, this is not what we are supposed to do!"
My statement was garbled in my editing. I’ll try again:
