Two-thirds of Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll – including a majority of Joe Biden’s own supporters – say he should step aside as his party’s presumptive nominee for president given his debate performance two weeks ago. That’s even as Biden continues to run evenly with Donald Trump, with no meaningful post-debate change in vote preferences.
Americans divide 46-47% between Biden and Trump if the election were today, almost identical to a 44-46% ABC/Ipsos poll result in April. Among registered voters (though there’s plenty of time to register) it’s an absolute tie, 46-46%.
Were Vice President Kamala Harris to replace Biden as the Democratic nominee, vote choices are 49-46%, Harris-Trump, among all adults (and 49-47% among registered voters). Harris’ 49% is slightly better than Biden’s 46%, although she doesn’t have a statistically significant lead over Trump.

Though neither is broadly popular, Biden continues to have a better personal favorability rating than Trump. And Biden leads Trump by 17 points, 39%-22%, in being seen as more honest and trustworthy, essentially unchanged from the spring.
Both candidates face a high degree of scorn. About 4 in 10 Americans say neither has the mental sharpness or the physical health to serve effectively, and as many say neither is honest and trustworthy. Sixty percent say Trump is too old for a second term, also a new high, up from 44% in spring 2023. And in a sign of the nation's political polarization, 50% say that given his debate performance, Trump should step aside in favor of another nominee -- although, in contrast with Biden, very few of Trump's own supporters say so.

Entirely possible...the effects of several months of heavy and mostly unanswered advertising campaigns doesn't suddenly disappear with a terrible debate performance. Marketing and messaging - and the money to do it - matters.
Being tied is meaningless. Dems aren’t going to switch to Trump even if they want Biden to drop out. They will stick with Biden until he drops out and then switch to the new Dem candidate.

Well, yes. Half of everybody is below average intelligence. It’s that fascist bell-shaped curve!
But for whatever reason a large number of voters hate Trump with the heat of a thousand suns. They’d vote for anyone, even one in a coma over Trump. Those voters will never be won over, best we can hope for is they will be so discouraged that they’ll stay at home.
I don’t really think that all that many are true to Biden, but rather true to democrats. They will vote for anyone with a D after his or her name regardless of record or qualifications.
The Dems enthusiasm voting will be that of a man walking to the electric chair.

If that poll is to be believed, then why is Obama and so many working behind the scenes to remove Biden? They should be comforted by this poll and just relax, should they not?
The Cook poll is what Democrats are using to make decisions. Remember the voters wishes are irrelevant. Obama. Pelosi. Clyburn. Media. They decide who will be the nominee.
If they run Biden, then they'll really have to ramp up the cheating. This has the danger of exposing them finally to public outrage.
If they can run someone else, then when they cheat to win the election, there will be plausible deniability.
They are trying to set people up to think this will be a legitimate election.
That sure as hell doesn’t make sense 67% want Biden to drop out and yet Trump and Biden are tied? I smell BS on this turd poll. I guess the DNCmediavomits really really think Americans are stupid. I know we’re divided but there’s no way in hell Trump and the cadaver are tied no effing way!
This poll did not poll likely voters or even registered voters. It was a poll of American adults.

It’s amazing how they can poll ballots instead of actual voters. :)
That doesn't work any more, because Democrats have figured out how to manufacture fraudulent ballots for their stay-at-homes - as well as their dead, relocated, and illegals.
A return to voter ID and paper ballots could cure a lot of this - but that would require office-holders to agree to such changes who have zero motive to do so.
As a kid there were commercials for Bandini which was a fertilizer ( cow poop if you are city dweller) and the selling line was “BANDINI is the name for fertilizer.”
Now it would be JOE BIDEN is the name for fertilizer! POLLS like this are useless. IT is a stunning electoral college landslide. To big to rig as Trump says and even astute Dems are making mention of this

Truth be told almost half this nation will vote for a dead yellow dog before voting for the opposing party.
Presently President Trump has the limited opportunity to choose the yellow dog but the risk is too much for his political handlers to handle.
