Russian President Vladimir Putin is losing the Global South, a new Pew Research Center poll showed.

The poll—which was published on July 2 ahead of the NATO military alliance's summit in Washington, D.C., on July 9 to 11—surveyed global public confidence in the Russian leader, asking respondents if they had confidence in Putin "to do the right thing regarding world affairs."

The poll was conducted between January 5 and May 21 and includes respondents in 35 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America and sub-Saharan Africa.

Newsweek has contacted Russia's Foreign Ministry for comment by email.

Overall, views of Putin have remained largely negative across the 35 countries polled—73 percent of respondents lacked confidence in the Russian leader "to do the right thing regarding world affairs," Pew reported.

Confidence in the Russian leader fell in a number of countries in the Global South, including in India, the Philippines, Turkey, Ghana, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

The survey found that the percentage of Indians who had confidence in Putin "to do the right thing regarding world affairs" was 39 percent in 2024, down 3 percentage points from 2019, when a poll was last conducted in the country.

In Brazil, 10 percent of respondents had confidence in Putin in 2024, a decrease of 2 percentage points from last year. In Mexico, 24 percent had a favorable view of Putin, which was down 1 percent from 2023. In Chile, 12 percent had confidence in Putin, an 8 percent drop from 2017—which Pew said was "a new low."

What a lie, Russia is making great inroads into Africa and has stripped France of all of its African colonies. It’s the reason Macaroni is so interested in leading France into the next world war. Putin took bitch Macaroni’s uranium.

Well, when India, the Philippines, Turkey, Ghana, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico hold their next elections, I don’t imagine their people will vote for Putin.

And how many in the “Global South” trust our Joe to do the right thing—or any thing at all?

What does this even mean?

AFAIK.. Putin is not running for president in Ghana..

For better or worse, Putin is (or believes he is) acting in the best interests of Russia.

If that means that Cameroon (or where ever) does not get an endowment for their local DEI programs from Russia. Does that Butt-Hurt realy matter to the Russians?

Putin’s very popular in Russia—and they certainly don’t want to advertise that!

Great. We spend a trillion dollars on Ukraine and the only benefit is Putin goes down in the polls in some Third World countries.

Change the name to Trump and redult is worse. Change to Biden and no one has a clue since he is not in charge.

If the same survery was in Brics applicant nations of which 160 have applied, this result would reverse to positive.

The survey is essentially only within Americas sphere of influence.

That’s the beauty of being a nationalist whose policies are focused on one’s own people, language and culture.

You don’t really worry about what people in India or Ghana think.

Odd sort of poll.

The correct question is “do you feel that Putin will do what is best for Russia?” That question will rate high.

No one will do what is “the right thing” unless the right thing is defined as what is best for their own country.

They poll the wrong places. Here on Free Republic, Putin’s popularity is very high!

On Free Republic, Putin enjoys the same kind of love, respect and support that obama, Biden and Hillary receive from the American media.

According to Free Republic’s most prolific posters, no matter what Putin does in or to Ukraine or anywhere else, Putin is the victim and it’s America’s fault.

Maybe I should have, but I never saw that coming here. SMH

I think we need to put our own house in order before worrying about these types of things.

It will take a herculean effort to bring us back to land of the free; the home of the brave. And we’re running out of time.
