Despite the far-left New Popular Front winning the second round of elections, riots broke out in France after leftist radicals had gathered in anticipation of a potential victory of Marine Le Pen’s populist National Rally.
Ahead of the second round of voting on Saturday, the government mobilised 30,000 police officers, including 5,000 in Paris, in expectation of riots from the far-left if the populist right repeated its success in the first round of the snap elections called by French President Macron.
Black bloc Antifa-style radicals were filmed setting fire to street furniture and bicycles, as well as shooting fireworks and other projectiles at police as they ran ruff shot through the French capital. Demonstrators were seen waving Palestinian and Antifa flags.
Protests and riots have also broken out in Rennes, Lyon, Marseilles and other cities across France, Le Figaro reports.
While the New Popular Front alliance between socialists, radical environmentalists, and outright communists won the most seats, currently being projected to have secured between 187 and 198 seats in the National Assembly, the far left still showed their violent edge, clashing with police in Paris and other cities on Sunday evening.

Looks like they need another revolution. I really don’t care if the French continue to screw up France. Not my concern. I’m pretty sure the leftists are at least going to pull the plug on the insanely reckless idea of sending regular French troops to Ukraine. Helping to drag us into WWIII is a concern of mine.

They’re rioting because they got bupkis. They got the most seats, but are well short of a majority. Macron’s center right and the right have almost 60% of the seats.

This should be interesting being three weeks prior to the Olympics. Do you think they’ll be birding down Paris during the Olympics. I can’t see how the Olympic committee will want to put people at risk. But then again it’s about the money.

Some interpretations of today’s vote said many voted against Le Pen out of fear left would riot if she won. Lots of good that did them! Hope they remember this the next time and may there be a next time ASAP. Meanwhile, let the winners, who are incredibly being reported as “far left” prove themselves as scarier than any dreams of Le Pen.
I think the rioting was a warning to the people to not vote for the right. The people voted for the left out of fear of what would happen if the right won.
Reminds me of the Rodney King riots. There were some well-organized gangs that planned to riot no matter the trial verdict. I also remember some Korean shop owners who stood outside their businesses with shotguns. Most criminals are cowards, and they did not attempt to rob and destroy the shops openly protected with firearms.

Things have git to get a lot worse for these idiots to finally wake up.
They were already ready for a protest, so they said “what the hell?”.

Misleading headline. Melenchon’s far left has not ‘won’. They simply have a few more seats than any other group in a hung parliament, with no group having a majority.
