Trump May Have Done Too Much Winning Tonight
National Review ^ | June 28, 2024 | Michael Brendan Doughterty

Right now, MSNBC and CNN post-debate panels are openly talking about options for pressuring Biden to withdraw, or party officials conspiring to replace him at the convention anyway.

I truly believe that convention drama is usually energizing for a party, not demoralizing. And the selection between Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom would allow Democrats to feel like the party of the future again, rather than a party litigating a recent past that voters hated.

If Biden’s bad performance really does lead to his departure from the race, Republicans will miss him.

Kamala’s acceptance speech ought to be a spectacle to behold.

If they replace Biden now, they get a big boost in the polls

Yes - Biden was awful. But the real story is that CNN didn’t lift a finger to help him. It appears this was part of a plan to hopefully get these two flawed old white presidents bickering over the past - and to set the stage for someone younger and browner and more female who will have a clean slate and focus on hope and change.

I was hoping too that Trump would hold back and not completely destroy him in the debate to keep him in the race because he is the weakest the Dems have to offer. But this seemed to be not so much a case of Trump knocking him out, although Trump did well, but a case of Biden knocking himself out. Even a bad debate performance by Trump would not have saved Biden from the self devastation we saw on that stage

“The parties were not as ideological back then.”

More than you think. 1972 was when the crazies finally overtook the Democrat Party.

Its true, but the CNN commentary panel was even more unbelievable. Axlerod. Every member of the panel completely trashed Biden 6 dems and 2 republicans. The fag in the middle just listened to his 8 guests go on and on. Yeah the black chik kept calling trump a liar but trashed Biden for not doing anything about it. Not one dem even tried to defend him. Just watch the CNN post debate panel, you wont regret it.

This was 100% planned from the start. Why have a debate before the conventions unless you need time to set up a replacement. The dems knew they would get this outcome. They want a replacement for Joe. Their problem now is that Biden has done such a terrible job as the president and their party is so lacking in depth, it will be extremely difficult for them to find anyone who could replace him and win. They may find someone who can limit the damage to their party. But who knows what Joe will have to say about it. He could fight them to the end and it could get very messy for them.

In any case, they don’t really have a candidate likely to win or they would have already run them. Trashing Donald Trump is all they can try.

God I swear, even on fantastic nights of great joy, there is still ALWAYS a determined cult of Debbie downer, negative Nancy, Eeyore asshat, gloomy loser, Chicken Little killjoys with some avenue of impending & definite peril to ruin the mood! No need for cultists to lecture me about thinking ahead or considering all the possibilities. I want all avenues of preparation considered too- in 24 hours! It might be nice to have one day to bask in the success that was just experienced by us. ONE DAY! SO COULD YALL PLEASE F+%K O/F FOR ONE NIGHT!!!

Probably. The current economic problems are likely just setting the stage for worse future ones. I think the economy has been under almost constant stimulus since 911.

I’ve grown not to trust Nat Review but they majesty a good point this time imho. Still, the D’s have no obvious other candidate
So — they may be forced to select a sports hero type or other well known substitute
Which could help the D ticket a lot m

Me? I thick they’ll keep Biden and just replace the ineligible Harris for ho drags the ticket down a lot. Biden is still useful sock puppet

Even worse, the Dems will likely have the surprise factor if they chose someone like Newsome. There will be such a relief that people who were for Trump before will probably swing, at least for a little while. Probably put the election in the Dems corner.

It is game over if the Dems put almost anyone else in there.

I think you're right.

Also, consumer credit card debt is close to being maxed out; stores are closing, with Walgreens announcing many closures are coming; layoffs are rising and first-time unemployment filings are growing.

Employment is being artificially being held up by massive government hiring.

The S&P 500 is being propped up by five stocks; the rest of the S&P 500 is barely showing growth.

The Federal Reserve is not cutting rates, so banks with long-term bonds are going to get squeezed soon.

Something is going to break soon. I'm not sure what the trigger will be. Probably a spike in unemployment along with inflation slowly creeping back up.
