Right now, MSNBC and CNN post-debate panels are openly talking about options for pressuring Biden to withdraw, or party officials conspiring to replace him at the convention anyway.
I truly believe that convention drama is usually energizing for a party, not demoralizing. And the selection between Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom would allow Democrats to feel like the party of the future again, rather than a party litigating a recent past that voters hated.
If Biden’s bad performance really does lead to his departure from the race, Republicans will miss him.

Any replacement would get an undeserved big bump out of the convention and then go into freefall, ultimately losing at least as badly as Biden would have.
I’ve been saying all along that I hoped that Biden did well enough to make it to the Democrat Convention. That way, they probably wouldn’t dump him. Then, if he wandered off the stage confused in the second debate, that would be okay with me.
Kamala is already talking about Biden in the past tense...
It didn’t help McGovern when he dumped Tom Eagleton, and it won’t help the Democrats if they dump Biden.
I am in the camp that thinks a massive economic meltdown is going to hit no matter who is in office. The Dems might be willing to let Biden lose, knowing Trump would be in office when the austerity and/or depression hits...then for two years the lawsuits and lawfare continues, then they hit back hard at the midterms and take both houses.
One more thing: 25th Amendment. Wait for it.

The MSM working in overdrive can make all of America think they have known Gavin Gruesome or Kamala for their entire lives.

I watched it on CNN and in within the first minute of post-debate discussion, I felt the panel had already rehearsed their faux shocked expressions and comments.
No politically aware person could be surprised that Biden is cognitively impaired.
1) Nothing is happening until there is a new cycle of polling. Not of who won the debate. Of presidential preference.
2) If the loss in that poll is minor, he’s not being replaced. And it is very hard to get a major move when most of his support is anti Trump, not pro Biden.
3) And there is entirely too much talk about how much time until election day. Many states are voting in September.
