Trump’s Biggest Debate Opponents Are The Media, Not Biden
The Federalist ^ | June 24, 2024 | Brianna Lyman

CNN cut the microphone of Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt on Monday after she correctly pointed out the network’s debate moderators’ long history of anti-Trump bias — proving the former president’s biggest opponent during the Thursday presidential debate isn’t President Joe Biden, but the media.

CNN’s Kasie Hunt first asked Leavitt “what Donald Trump is going to do differently on the debate stage,” before asking Leavitt what she expects from Biden.

“It would take someone five minutes to google ‘Jake Tapper, Donald Trump’ to see that Jake Tapper has —,” Leavitt said, referencing that the debate would be moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, before Hunt cut her off.

“Ma’am, we’re gonna stop this interview if you’re gonna keep attacking my colleagues,” Hunt said.

“— for example, consistently likened Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler,” Leavitt continued.

“Ma’am, I’m gonna stop this interview if you continue to attack my colleagues,” Hunt said. “I would like to talk about Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who you work for. If you are here to speak on his behalf, I’m willing to have this conversation.”

“I am stating facts that your colleagues have stated in the past. Now, as for this debate —” Leavitt tried to say before her mic was cut and Hunt ended the interview.

Hunt said Leavitt could rejoin the show if she would answer the question about the debate.

Leavitt later posted to X that the point she was trying to make — and succeeded in doing — is that Trump would “not be treated fairly on Thursday” by the network.

CNN’s decision to abruptly remove Leavitt from the air for factually noting Tapper’s anti-Trump bias (including his comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler) effectively sent the message that the truth would be silenced at all costs. Should Trump say something entirely factual that...

This again raises the question of why Trump would agree to a debate on CNN, hosted by CNN moderators.

What are the rest of the rules? Will they cut his mic if he does not answer the questions exactly as asked? Will he be muted is he goes off-topic? I anticipate a completely censored s*itshow.

Just spitballing here, maybe he’ll ignore Biden and make CNN and by extension, all the other Fake News outlets the focus of the event. It will drive them batsh!t crazy.

I AM SICK OF A PARTISAN BIASED CONDESCENDING STUPID “MEDIA”

I am forgetting whether we ever had a real press in my lifetime.

The NY “convicted felon” verdict blew up in their faces.

If the CNN “moderators” mute him and/or cut off his mic it will also blow up in their faces and Trump will get another billion dollars of campaign contributions.

The American people know in-your-face unfairness when they see it, and they do not take kindly to it.

They had clobbered Joe McCarthy by the time I was born. Then they trashed Barry Goldwater, helped run Nixon, and spent eight years dumping hot coals on Reagan. Does that help?

*maybe he’ll ignore Biden and make CNN and by extension, all the other Fake News outlets the focus of the event. It will drive them batsh!t crazy.*

It reminds me of a 1964 movie “None But The Brave” Frank Sinatra’s in it. The Japanese commander had his gun pointed at the American leader-Clint Walker. Nighttime. His narration:”I could have killed him that night but I chose not to. In the loneliness of command we are brothers.”

If the mods jumped on Biden to show off their ‘evenhandedness’ could you see Trump suggesting it’s him and Biden that are the combatants, not CNN.

And that’s why he couldn’t back out.

If he did, they all say he was a coward, corrupt, trying to cover something up.

His track record proves that, while he may not an eloquent speaker talking to like-minded enablers who throw nothing softballs, he’s been right, damn near every time. Truth may have taken a while to come out, but he’s been right.

I predict the “moderators” will argue with every one of PDJT’s responses, interrupt him, say things like “that’s not true”, try to fluster him and cut him off whenever he’s making a point, but will smile and nod at biden’s mumbling nonsense.

Trump issued an open invitation to Biden to have a debate (probably expecting Biden to refuse).

Greg Gutfeld on The Five a little while ago was talking about the debate and how biased the moderators are, but he seemed overly optimistic into thinking they can be shamed into showing some fairness.

Yes, Tapper and Dash are the biggest opponents, Biden is a pathetic and embarrassing sideshow.

Biden will be the non cognizant cigar store Indian bystander at the debate while Trump debates Tapper and Bash

The best way to stop this debate network ego bias is to go back to the way debates were moderated prior to 1996. Prior to the 1996 debates, the network broadcasting the debate had the host limited to moderating the debate, that is, timekeeping and enforcing the rules. A separate panel of questioners were from mixed media, including the competing networks and print journalists. Beginning with the 1996 debates, the only people questioning the candidates were from the network hosting the debates.

By going back to past practices, perhaps the other talent at the hosting network won't be so defensive when guests come on the air to talk about the debates?
