Nearly 50 percent of parents with children under 18 take on debt for Disney trips with in-park food and beverages the biggest drain on the family vacation budget, a survey shows.
Financial website Lending Tree surveyed Americans about how vacationing at Disney World impacts their finances.
It found some 24 percent of all Disney-goers have accrued debt during their trips, along with 45 percent of parents with children under the age of 18.
The average amount of debt for those parents was $1,983, LendingTree said.

Great park. Kind of how some parks..like Hershey ..use to be.
We took our kids to Disneyworld about 25 years ago. It was a great trip, but it was long before the Disney parks became LGBTUVWXYZ+ grooming centers.
I would have liked to take our grandkids, but there is no chance unless Disney is liquidated and its parks are sold off to a far less woke operator. Disney itself is beyond saving.

True story: In the late 1950’s I was an infant and my family lived in San Diego. According to my parents, they saw Walt Disney in person sitting on a bench at Disneyland and asked him to hold me while my folks took a photo. Apparently at that moment I peed on Walt Disney, who handed me back to my mother and said “I think the boy has had an accident”.

We dislike Disney here on Free Republic. But the rest of the world loves Disney. The rest of the world loves that theme park experience. And when you see what it costs, many are willing to pay the exorbitant price.
BY “go into debt”, do they mean merely that the parents put some or all of the trip expenses on credit card(s), or do they mean the parents took out a loan to help pay for the trip. The former is a line or lines of credit they already had, and it only means they won’t use that credit for somehing else, while the latter means they obtained money by a personal loan. Actually, the latter might be on a more favorable interest rate than they had on their credit card(s). However, either way, it means they will be paying for the disney trip for many months into the future.
Like our national parks.

I went to Disney World in 2016. At that time you could bring your own food in and eat it any of the places that did not have table service. We also brought water bottles and continually refilled them from the fountains. There’s no need to go into debt by eating in restaurants unless they have changed that policy.
This is an interesting question and one which highlights a contradiction in our human nature. Of course, no one enjoys or looks forward to standing in long lines once one arrives at the park. However, the real excitement is largely felt beginning weeks before from the thought of going there, and perhaps not so much being there, with the endlessly long lines, the crowds, and the constant nickel and diming. The ecstasy is in more in the anticipation, rather than the thing itself.
These are the same people who think they can afford a luxury because the credit card interest is less than their income.
Knoebels is great! It even has many shade trees and benches to sit under them in the hot weather. You pay for each ride so a person like me who went on almost nothing paid almost nothing but enjoyed the full day watching children and grandchildren go on lots of rides
Disney should raise their prices even more and cater to the wealthy.
Disneyland in Calif USED to be a great place to spend a day.
