Navy Capt. Michel Brandt has been relieved of command of the USS Somerset, an amphibious transport dock ship, the service announced Friday. Brandt was fired “due to a lack of confidence in her ability to lead the crew” by Rear Adm. Christopher Stone, commander of the Expeditionary Strike Group 7, according to the Navy statement. She was relieved Thursday.

A “lack of confidence” is often cited by the military when removing a commander. Brandt has commanded the ship since July 2023, according to the Navy. Capt. Tate Robinson was assigned to temporarily replace Brandt as commanding officer of the Somerset until a permanent commander is selected for the ship. Robinson is currently commodore of Amphibious Squadron 5 at Naval Base San Diego, the Navy said. Brandt has been assigned to administrative duties with the Pacific fleet’s Naval Surface Force commander. The USS Somerset’s homeport is listed as Naval Base San Diego. The Somerset has been operating in the Indo-Pacific region and took part in the Balikatan exercises in the Philippines in May, according to Lt. Grace Kording, public affairs officer with the Naval Surface Force at Naval Base San Diego The Navy offered no additional details about firing Brandt. Navy Capt. Michel Brandt was relieved as the commanding officer of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Somerset on June 6, 2024, service officials said. Navy Capt. Michel Brandt was relieved as the commanding officer of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Somerset on June 6, 2024, service officials said. (Evan Diaz/U.S. Navy) “Navy commanding officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct,” the Navy said in its statement. “They are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability and leadership, and the Navy holds them accountable when they fall short of those standards.” Brandt is a native of Oak Grove, Ky., according to her Navy profile. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1998 and was commissioned through the Navy ROTC program. Among her assignments, Brandt has served on the littoral combat ships USS Freedom and USS Fort Worth and as reactor officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Her earrings are out of standards. No rhinestones are allowed.

Unfortunately the Navy did away with the women’s traditional bucket cover and made the men’s covers unisex a few years ago. Probably so trannies would feel more comfortable.

Thanks again for the info. Can you guess why she wore male attire in such an official photograph? Photographer must have been a real dummy.

Guarantee more men have been relieved of duty than female officers. In fact I’d 100 percent say so.

No wings on her uniform, only the SFO badge. Then Navy has been selecting people in their “Aviator to Carrier Captain” pipeline for quite awhile now. That’s how the other woman who’s now commanding a carrier made it.

Too bad. Social justice warriors are ruining all our military traditions for the globalist agenda. I hated wearing that unisex cover for the final year of my career.

Guess that has nothing to do with there being more males represented?

LOL, I had an ARCOM and an MSM in my 8 years of active duty, plus a couple that everybody got. Of course, that was from 76-84, when there wasn't much going on.

and that diminishes it?

Yes, we live in an age of drive by observations. easily manipulated by memes and cartoon. Read the headline and you think you know something.

In good books there is a lot of thinking, pondering. If you have read The Peter Principle there is a lot of deep thinking that sticks. We have very much lost our reading and thinking skills.

In church history, some leaders thought “lets give the masses some icons and we will tell them what it means.” Others said, lets teach them to read and let them learn on their own.

Our Founding Fathers were well read in philosophy and science.

Having said that, there is a role of memes and cartoon, but it is not the main diet.
