Trump’s calls for political vengeance worry Senate GOP
The Hill ^ | 06/10/24 6:00 AM ET | BY ALEXANDER BOLTON

Some Senate Republicans are expressing concerns over former President Trump’s calls for political vengeance after the 2024 election, warning that retaliatory prosecutions will lead the country down a bad road.

The Senate GOP’s top leaders — Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Whip John Thune (S.D.) — have shown no desire to embrace Trump’s calls to prosecute senior Biden administration officials or his longtime nemesis Hillary Clinton.

And some GOP senators are pushing back against conservative colleagues who want to freeze Justice Department funding or defund special counsel Jack Smith’s criminal prosecutions of Trump.

They don’t want to stumble into a government shutdown by waging war over the Justice Department’s budget or taking other retaliatory steps favored by Trump’s allies.

Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) says he thought Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s (D) case against Trump was “an unjust prosecution.”

But he’s concerned about Trump’s vow to retaliate with politically motivated prosecutions from his own Justice Department if he’s elected in November.

“This is not the direction we want this country to go,” he said.

“They don’t want to stumble into a government shutdown by waging war over the Justice Department’s budget...”

LOL! Oh don’t worry fellow Leftists! I’ll gleefully support the greatest expansion of the Justice Dept.’s budget in history as investigations and arrests are made against the Left-wing racketeers who have violated the Constitution over the last 4 years. A government shutdown will be the last thing on my mind.

Then you shouldn’t have stood by and let it happen in the first place. The game the democrats played was extremely dangerous and destructive to the nation, but they played it before 2016 and since. I want these games to end, and the nation to move forward, but that’s not going to happen unless a few people hang. It’s not vengeance, it’s prudence and simply common sense. The democrats did it because they feel they can get away with it, and they will continue to do it until the door is slammed hard. The reality is that ‘hanging a few of the real guilty’ it important to salvage a Republic, as well as safety for the masses by preventing a domestic conflict. Jail sentences, or even unemployment, may be reasonable for the many that ‘politicized government’ but the real bad players need to hang.

All he has to do is release the home address of every employee at MSNBC and every agent at the FBI and CIA.

The rest will take care of itself.

What the corrupt fools call “revenge”, I call accountability. The country requires accountability for the Russia Russia hoax, the Hunter Laptop and present day’s election interference.

The argument makes a false equivalence between what the Democrats have been doing and what they are afraid Trump will do.

The Democrats have been targeting conservatives and Republicans and using novel excuses to charge them of a crime.

Meanwhile, the Democrats have been committing actual crimes of which there is no doubt, but use novel excuses why not to prosecute them.

If Trump’s Justice Dept prosecuted those Democrats, it would not be the same thing because those Democrats actually did break the law.

All he needs to do is cut their budgets. No need o seek “vengeance.” Their budgets need to be cut anyway.

The dems don’t announce they JUST DO IT.

If Trump had an OUNCE of sense he would shut up and JUST DO IT.

He gives people notice so they build defenses.

Rounds is just announcing the reality of pursuing such a path. The first reality would be Senate refusal to confirm Trump’s AG. The second reality would be Article III judges tossing every case based on any minute hint of political retribution.

It’s the way our legal system is set up at the federal level.

Seriously, how long do you think that will last?

If Trump didn’t announce it the 20-20 hindsight club would be trying to use that against him. Some of your posts are OK but sometimes I wonder about you.

Nonsense.

Drama ensues.

People who want leadership not 4 more years of lawfare are turned off.

I am not saying that he shouldn’t do it.

Just stop announcing his every move.

Stupid conservatives
