More than half of President Biden’s supporters said they are mainly backing the incumbent in 2024 to oppose former President Trump, according to a new poll.
A new CBS News/YouGov poll, released Sunday, found 54 percent of likely Biden voters are planning to choose him on November’s ballot, a 7-point increase from March.
The second-highest reason for choosing Biden was that they liked him, with 27 percent selecting the option. This is down 4 points from when the poll was taken in March. Nearly a fifth, or 19 percent, said they are going with Biden because he is the presumptive Democratic nominee.
CBS pollsters noted how voters frame their decision, either as a referendum or a choice, is a strong influence in their choice.
Of those who said they see the election as a judgement on Trump, most vote for Biden, 66 percent to 34 percent. When people see it as a judgement on just Biden, they vote for Trump, also 66 percent to 34 percent.
With voters who see it as a comparison between the two candidates, slightly more respondents are voting for Trump, 53 percent, over Biden, who shored up 47 percent support.
The same poll found Biden and Trump basically tied nationally and in battleground states. Trump received 50 percent support nationally among likely voters, while Biden had 49 percent. In battleground states 50 percent of likely voters chose Biden, while 49 percent backed Trump.
Both candidates have secured more than enough delegates to be considered their respective parties’ presumptive nominees but will be officially nominated at their parties’ conventions this summer.

Other than his family and cronies, no one will vote for Biden. Many who hate Trump will vote for Biden. After three and half years in office, Biden offers nothing to support really.
As time passes, the criteria for the definition of “likely voter” changes.
There are several measurements
1. Registered
2. Self identify as being likely to vote
3. A history of having voted before
This poll was mostly of resident adults. The drilldown to registered was part of the likely voter questions.
67% of the voting eligible population voted in 2020. This does NOT mean registered.
I think some of those voters are persuadable, if they learn new information about Trump or start to realize that by whatever criteria they’re judging Trump, Biden is worse.

Actually, I think it would be even more disturbing if Biden supporters were supporting him because they thought he was doing a good job. At least the support that’s purely the product of Trump-hate has some method to the madness. But if they were like, “Oh my goodness, forget Trump, I’m backing Joe Biden because he’s a genius!”... well, that would be pure insanity.
With everything that is a disaster (high grocery prices,gas, utilities, etc) in this country under Biden, you’d think Trump would be ahead so much in the polls that it’d be like Reagan over Mondale. But it’s not, why?
Yeah, for educated-in-the-modern-university folks, better totalitarian puppetry than peace and prosperity. The Puppet-in-chief will give you stuff, at least until he has to take it all away again.

Well, of course. I’d vote for a Republican turnip before I’d vote for Biden.
Pretty much mirrors what I hear around my liberal democrat office, virtual no democrat actually likes Biden, among each other they run him down and mock his age and senility nearly as much as we do. But you can sure as hell bet they’ll be voting for him on election day because he is “Not Trump”.
