Trump campaign sends vetting paperwork to possible 2024 VPs — here are the notable names

The Trump campaign has begun vetting vice presidential contenders for the former president — and several notable names are on his short-list, The Post has learned.

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Tim Scott (R-SC) have all recently exchanged varying degrees of vetting documents with Trump’s campaign, a source familiar told The Post Wednesday.

As have Reps. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Republican North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and former Trump administration Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, the source said.

...

A Trump campaign official told The Post that the 77-year-old former president has not settled on who he’ll tap to be on the ticket with him in November — or when he’ll make that decision.

...

Earlier this month, Trump indicated in an interview with News12 that his final decision on a running mate would come “probably not too much before” the start of the Republican National Convention, where he will be formally named the GOP nominee.

“...

“We have many people who would do a fantastic job,” [Trump said] ...

No, the VP will be one and out. Trump won’t share the spotlight to give them standing. Plus, he’ll pick someone to back him up, not follow-him.

If I voted on the basis of purity, I’d write in Jesus.

We can’t always get what we want.

That is the fault of republicans who won’t support the candidate. Not like the dems who would vote for Biden’s brain in a jar of blue liquid.

I like Stefanik, but her vote to re-authorize FISA is very irritating. It is unconscionable to have renewed that after all the ways it was abused thus far - and nobody was punished for the abuse.

I wonder why Marsha Blackburn is not on a VP list. I think she is one of the better female pubbies out there. I would like a female Veep candidate, but most of the prominent ones are not good.

I’m sorry but a wonderful man and Doctor, Carson, is Jeff Sessions with a degree in Medicine.

"If I voted on the basis of purity, I’d write in Jesus."

I wouldn't vote for a Rino if he had Jesus as his running mate.

At almost 77, and this likely being my last Presidential vote, you bet your ass I'm going to vote for what I want. I held my nose too many times over the past 45+ years to vote for GOP losers. I will never do that again.

Are you saying that there will not be a presidential election between this year and when you turn 99 years old??

I’m still hoping for Vivek. An outsider, successful businessman, highly intelligent and articulate, and loves smacking down the criminal left.

Yes! After 4 years as VP he would know the ins and outs of Washington DC and who the bad guys are and the good guys. He would then be ready to carry on the policies of Trump.

Normally the VP candidate is not important. Trump will be limited to one term so the VP pick is very important in this election. Trump's VP will in all probability be the presidential candidate in 2028.

VP Vivek 2024- President Vivek 2028.

“Boring backup” is exactly what’s needed. Trump turns 78 next week, folks. His running mate needs to be ready to be President on 1/20/25.

Also, this election will probably be decided by “double disapprovers” who dislike both candidates. Trump’s running mate needs to be someone they’re comfortable with.

Burgundy might not be the best choice in the world, but he’s probably the best on that list.

On that list, yes. But I bet Trump will pick someone not on that list.

Lee Zeldin, for VP! But, Donald Trump would create the most Leftist/most Anti-Trump heart attacks with Donald Trump, Jr. (or with any other Trump) for VP!

If that is true, then Scott or Donalds will be a viable pick

Trump’s real problem is white people. He is on track for the worst showing among whites for a Republican presidential candidate in 60 years.

More nonsense from you.

That's why he is doing so well, all around, in the polling this early in the game, right?

“I don’t think the data bear’s that out. From what I’ve seen, Trump is polling roughly the same with whites as he did in 2020 or maybe slightly better. His big gains are coming from blacks and hispanics, but that shouldn’t be construed as a loss of support among whites.”

Don’t waste your time debating it. It’s a Trump hating troll from DU.

Tim Scott would be a waste.

_______________________________________________________

I know you know (should know) Scott is black. And would carry millions of black voters on the fence solidly to a Trump/Scott ticket.

Donalds would do, but he is from Florida. Carson would do, but he is too old, too nice.

"Are you saying that there will not be a presidential election between this year and when you turn 99 years old??"

Nope. I'm saying that I've already outlived everyone else in my family. Nobody lived to be 75. Most died before 70, so I'll be lucky if I'm still alive in four more years.
