Russian central bank assets.
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said the move will hand Ukraine up to €3 billion (about $3.3 billion) this year.
"We have approved in the EU using revenues from Russia's central bank's frozen assets to help Ukraine," wrote Lipavsky on X, formerly Twitter. "Up to €3B only this year, 90% goes for Ukraine's military. Russia must pay for its war damages."
The financial assets were frozen shortly after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Reuters reported this month that the EU has estimated that by 2027, windfall profits from Russia's central bank assets frozen in the world's largest trading bloc could reach €20 billion (about $21.7 billion). The frozen assets have been gaining a huge amount of interest because they are stuck.
More than two-thirds of Russia's frozen sovereign assets are stashed in the EU...

The Marxists in America have never forgiven the Russians for getting rid of the Soviet Union and global communism.
dream on lol
“Russia could have been our ally in deterring our true enemy, Red China, had history’s recipe for creating allies been used.”
putin is a known liar
he is NOT trustworthy
“The confiscated assets are reparations to begin payment for the intentional war damage to Ukranian public and private property.”
You do not know this for fact, no one can foretell the future. No one. You are either guessing or parroting what you’ve read elsewhere.
Will any private Ukrainian citizens ever see a dime of this money? Ukrainians by nature are just as crooked as the Russians. The Uke’s were taught very well under decades of Soviet rule.
I kinda think the typical citizen is on his own if the war ever ends. If Biden manages to keep the WH, this war could be another one of those 20 year nightmares like Afghanistan with the end result being total disaster for the Ukrainians.

Why would we be relieved? We're still financially on the hook and this act is the latest attempt the Europeans are using to provoke war. The US may end up on the hook for WWIII, sending our own flesh and blood to fight for nothing because of the stupid, malevolent nature of the world government located in the UN/WEF/NATO/WHO which is working to overthrow Russia and 'make' it an obedient, subservient NATO vassal.
In WWII, the Soviets and Americans were not 'friends' and hated each other's ideology. I'm glad the Soviets made Hitler's soldiers fear the Russian front. We're in the same position as NATO works to tee up WWIII. Russia and the US are not 'buddies', but it helps if Russia actually fights and kills AZOV Nazi military and the army that the Deep State bought and paid for in the Ukraine.
That.

The assets are reparations of war and no longer Russian
Welp, you just proved you have no comprehension of the stakes, the players, likely fallout, the move toward WWIII and the status of the conflict at present, and you did it with just 2 sentences.
Muscowy has nothing it can do.
The capital is frozen as Muscowy is the aggressor force here, invading its neighbor.
The capital is not being given to Ukraine, but the profits from the capital.
A needless escalation of a war in which we should not be taking sides. The Russians might just decide to recover their losses from the Ukrainian recipients of their stolen property.
Not really - the aggressor state (Muscowy) has had its assets frozen. Not unprecedented.
This froze Muscowy’s central bank assets kept in its largest trading partner (the EU). Not private companies - under Putin Muscowy is a fascist state controlling any “private” enterprises
Nervous Tack - there will be no repercussions for freezing an aggressor state’s central bank assets and then using the profits to help the victim of the aggressor state
We should stop calling Muscowy as “Russia” — the inheritance of the Rus is split between Belarus, Muscowy and Ukraine.
Its been done before.
This is a risk that bad actors assume when they deal in a system they dont control but intend to undermine. Also known as wanting ones cake and eating it too, or being hoist by ones own petard.
BRICS are all talk, little action. The actions that they have taken are, laughable:
1. The New Development Bank (NDB), also called the BRICS Development Bank was created as an alternative to the World Bank.
The few loans that the NDB actually gave out have by the way been in … US Dollars as currency.
2. They had meetings to talk about an alternative to the dollar, but no way is India going to take the yuan, leave alone the rouble, as an alternative.
3. India has more tariffs and legal bans on Chinese trade than the USA and European countries have put on China - combined.
The Russians replaced their totalitarian government with a sonewhat more rational version, ideologically. But its strategic outlook hasnt changed much. Nor has its leadership structure.
That’s a simplification - it means to say “European COUNTRIES agree”
Correct. If there was no Putin, we wouldn’t be here.
Bush senior ruined it by starting Gulf war one, by not aiding Russia under Yeltsin
Hey! We are also rightist thugs here!
The Muscowites have been stealing refrigerators etc. from Ukraine since Feb 2022
