South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), who has been under the microscope this week for an anecdote about killing her dog, defended her actions Wednesday, saying she shot the “dangerous” pup in order to protect her children.
“It was a dog that was extremely dangerous,” Noem said Wednesday on Fox News’s “Hannity.” “It had come to us from a family who had found her way too aggressive.”
“We were her second chance. And she was — the day she was put down was a day that she massacred livestock that were part of our neighbors,” she continued. “She attacked me. And it was a hard decision.”
Noem added that she had to make a choice between “keeping my small children and other people safe, or a dangerous animal, and I chose the safety of my children.”

“That said, I think she destroyed her political career.”
Agreed. Look at the stupidity surrounding Mittens Romney putting the dog carrier on the car roof. Glad he didn’t win, but people STILL talk about that.
She’s toast.
She was chosen for her Gender and looks.
Everything emanates from there.
You’re a rancher or a farmer?
No, are you too lazy to drive to a no kill shelter?
The same whinyass cotton balls whining about this would really be whining if the dog had mauled some kid and the cops came to put it down.
Chickens are not children, and Noem’s daughter asked where was Cricket? That doesn’t sound like a child who was being assaulted by a dog. I bet a police officer would have dispatched the goat in one shot. Take a look at Noem’s hunting pictures. Full makeup and hair done. She is a poser.
So Trump Jr and Steve Bannon are also off base in their criticism ? not to mention the South Dakota Humane Society (yes, this is rare and unsettling behavior even for the West...). I will say she has a limited understanding of rural life for someone that grew up on a farm and ranch.
This is 2024. There are other options. It just smacks of pure laziness. If you own a dog, you have an obligation to be humane in how you treat it, or don’t own one. Cricket was a $1500 dog currently. Probably just relatively expensive back then. It would have been easy to find a new owner. Calling me a jerk face shows a high level of immaturity.

Live and learn.
Oh please. How do you know she's telling the truth? Every time she talks about it, she embellishes her story about how the dog was "dangerous." She's trying to dig herself out of a public relations mess and it isn't working.
Kaila offers compassionate advice and you spew snideness. Oxford got it right for once.
Humanely
in a way that shows compassion or benevolence.
"livestock have to be treated humanely"
by inflicting the minimum of pain.
"the dog was humanely destroyed"
My husband hunts. You can bet his hunter friends in suburbia would have loved a free expensive hunting dog . There are no chickens in the suburbs.
I can’t stand Kristi. She is a FLAKE!
That said, she’s right about the freakin dog. On a ranch, when a dog kills other livestock he is, 99.9999% of the time, shot on the spot. My dad shot 3 in one day for killing a baby calf.
Only Karen’s and City Dwellers would even think about a VET. Ranchers do not!
And again, as a potential President, Noem, to me is simply not qualified (putting it nicely).
It's ALWAYS the dog owners fault when dogs pee on the carpet, bite a friend or kill a baby calf. Your father should have known that.
Christy can shoot any dog she owns. Anytime.
Who cares?
“This was the DUMBEST thing to put in a Memoir! “
Perhaps she figured the dog incident would be reported if she, for instance, became Trump’s VP nominee, so she decided to tell it now.
On the next telling, the Media will have the 3-minute-old puppy fetus being shot just outside the mother's birth canal, and bystanders having had to restrain Kristi Noem from shooting the mother and the rest of the just-born litter...
“hey have vets in he dakotas. Could’ve taken the pup to the vet to be put down”
I don’t believe a 14 month old pup is a big dangeorous animal. She could have given it to someone who would try to train it prior to blowing its brains out for not being compliant. She is backtracking and trying to cover her entitled ignorance and cruelty.
