Former President Donald Trump will address “Libertarian Party concerns” later this month at the group’s national convention in Washington, DC, the party announced Wednesday.
“Libertarians are some of the most independent and thoughtful thinkers in our Country, and I am honored to join them,” Trump, 77, said in a statement.
The Libertarian Party’s unprecedented decision to give the presumptive Republican nominee for president a platform at the third-party group’s 2024 nominating convention will allow Trump to court voters beyond his GOP base.
“We all have to remember that our goal is to defeat the Worst President in the History of the United States, BY FAR, Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump said.
“We cannot have another four years of death, destruction, and incompetence. WE WILL WORK TOGETHER AND WIN!”
In 2020, Trump blamed Libertarian Party candidates for siphoning votes away from his past presidential campaigns, and he accused libertarian voters of “wasting their vote.”
The party had ballot access in all 50 states in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, with its nominees receiving 3.3% and 1.2% of the vote in each campaign, respectively.

“For 50 years, we’ve been trying to get our candidates on the main stage with major party POTUS candidates and we’ve finally succeeded in bringing one to our stage,” she said in a statement.
“We will do everything in our power to use this incredible opportunity to advance the message of liberty.”
The group plans to provide Trump with a list of the party’s top 10 issues ahead of the May 25 event, in hopes that it will influence his policy positions.
The party has invited President Biden, 81, to appear at the event as well.

total open borders...because “anyone should be able to cross the border regardless of whether the government approves”
What was the Reagan quote? “The core of conservatism is libertarianism?”
That’s not quite right, but the idea.
Now, there’s a huge difference between small-l libertarian and big-L libertarian.
You can support the Obama/Biden totalitarian dictatorship and world government.
Or you can support the guy who believes in individual rights and freedom.
The Libertarian Party is perplexed and really trying to puzzle this one out.
Trump is talking with a block of potential voters.
Biden can't do anything that's not a pre-written, pre-staged kabuki theater dance.
They have around two dozen prospective presidential nominees. Are they going to entertain endorsing Trump instead? If not, having him at the convention risks diluting their brand, their candidate. Very interesting.
To be fair many Libertarians don’t support open borders as long as we have a welfare state (for obvious reasons).
As I understand Libertarianism, they broadly want less govt. interference, which Trump will deliver.
Quibble about the specifics and risk Biden removing what precious freedoms we presently have.
Nice in the abstract, we all want less government.
But look at what this group of crazies is actually actively promoting: ranked choice voting, no drug laws, no abortion restrictions, open borders, legalize prostitution, etc.
“Now, there’s a huge difference between small-l libertarian and big-L libertarian.”
Exactly right. There are the adult libertarians and the infant libertarians. But not unlike Republicans.
Nice!
Do you think Michael Rectenwald has a chance of securing the Libertarian Party nomination?
In the past, I supported Ron Paul, Harry Browne, Bob Barr, and (cough, cough) Gary Johnson who, despite his penchant for copious amounts of cannabis, was a better choice for president than Romney.
“”””What was the Reagan quote? “The core of conservatism is libertarianism?”””””
LOL, in that 1977 libertarian interview that opening statement was typical Reagan looking to connect with the audience and disarm them, he then proceeded in that interview to sell conservatism and try to educate the libertarians on the excesses of their beliefs and why conservatism was the true path.
Saying that Libertarians support open borders is like saying Republicans support endless regime change wars.
Yes, there are some who do and some who don’t but most importantly, the ones who don’t are currently driving the party.
Look up the Mises Caucus and Dave Smith. They are now setting the agenda of the LP and it is not open border at all. And not just from a practical standpoint. On YouTube there are hours of theoretical and philosophical debates around the issue among LP members.
“”””To be fair many Libertarians don’t support open borders as long as we have a welfare state (for obvious reasons).””””
ROTFL
End welfare and handouts FIRST, and then we will talk about the political goal to remove the concept of a border and fire the Border Patrol and allowing the entire world to move here.
“””””Saying that Libertarians support open borders is like saying Republicans support endless regime change wars.”””””
Nonsense, one is just a silly attack from the left and the other is an official party position.
Libertarian position on Immigration
COMPLETE PLATFORM TEXT
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND CIVIL ORDER
IMMIGRATION:
“”The Issue: We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new “Berlin Wall” which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. government’s policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.
The Principle: We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age or sexual preference. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons.
Solutions: We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.
Transitional Action: We call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.””
Where is that text from?
Ron Paul for example, “ “No amnesty,” “No welfare to illegal aliens. End birthright citizenship. No more student visas from terrorist nations.”
“”””Party planks do not represent individual policy. This is true for Republicans, Democrats, and Libertarians.
Ron Paul for example, “ “No amnesty,” “No welfare to illegal aliens. End birthright citizenship. No more student visas from terrorist nations.”””””
Well duh, is the response to the first part, no platform can fit 80 million people perfectly but when a party’s entire history is pushing a determined position, then believe it.
As far as the professional politician Ron Paul, nothing he said disagrees with the party platform and post 16.
Ron Paul’s views in that quote are actually closer to the current Libertarian Party plank than the current Republican Party plank.
The section of text that ansel12 posted is old. That is not what it says here…
I will assume it was just an honest mistake on his part.
