America's working-age men are employed at much lower rates than they used to be, and a combination of factors — from recessions to globalization to rising addiction rates — could be playing a role.
In the early 1950s, as many as 96% of prime working-age American men, who were between the ages of 25 and 54, had full-time or part-time jobs, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As of March, about 86% of working-age men were employed, and this cohort's employment rate has lagged behind many developed countries in recent years
...As such, many men are struggling to support themselves financially. And mental-health experts say the longer people are out of the workforce, the higher the chances they'll experience mental-health challenges.
Here are a few factors that could explain what's happening.
1. It could be about recessions Since the 1950s, whenever the US economy fell into a recession, men's employment rate tended to suffer a longer-lasting blow.the longer someone is out of the workforce, the more disconnected from the workforce they can become
2. Many men with disabilities aren't working In 1960, roughly 455,000 workers collected Social Security disability benefits. In 2022, more than 7.6 million people, including about 1.3 million men between the ages of 25 and 54, collected disability benefits
3. Other theories: Education, incarceration, and stay-at-home dads
While the military is actively seeking recruits, it appears to be a less attractive path nowadays for many men — the Army, Navy, and Air Force have struggled to meet recruitment goals.

I haven’t laughed at it in a while-
“The term is also commonly used to describe the belief that increasing labour productivity, immigration, or automation causes an increase in unemployment. Whereas opponents of immigration argue that immigrants displace a country’s workers, this may not be true, as the number of jobs in the economy is not fixed”
There you have it folks. Obvious causes of higher unemployment really don’t cause higher unemployment because the number of jobs is not fixed. In other news, you may get a flat tire tomorrow because your car’s ac is broken.
I enjoy my job. Still productive at 67. Cancer may change my options. Pre Whipple procedure consult on th 16th.
Nobody is paying these days except a few tech fields and dangerous trades. Once those are oversaturated, everyone working will be broke.
I do engineering for buildings and salaries have only increased a few thousand in my field over the last 2 decades. While costs of basic necessities have doubled or trippled. The billing rates increased but mostly go to the owners/overhead and not workers.
I don’t even understand how young people survive these days and it’s really no surprise why so many drop out. Make the salaries make sense and people will work again...
I retired in December 2021 I had been working nonstop for 52 years. Now i draw two pensions, full social security, and my wife is drawing social security. We live very well.
Intentionally crushing businesses throughout Covid plandemic reduced the number of jobs - all new jobs were given to illegals (per actual data) last year.
Rapid increase in disability claims after ‘vaccine’ rollout.
Increase in drug abuse/alcoholism and mental health issues during lockdown.
Market Ticker (website) analyzes the workforce, something he’s done for decades because he’s a financial guy. He noted significant numbers of working aged people ‘missing’ (not incarcerated, not unemployed, not working, not disabled). Missing as in ‘where are they’? This occurred after the ‘vaccine’ rollout. The most likely answer is ‘died’. Some of them likely match up with Stoddard’s analysis that excess deaths were unusual after the ‘vaccine’ rollout and even more unusual, is that the deaths occurred most among working aged people. This would support the assertions from an article written by an insurance agency noting unusual numbers of deaths among working aged people (because the workplace provides the medical insurance). This would support 3 interviews with the mortuary business (coroner, funeral homes etc) that ‘business’ was flat during 2020 but then when the ‘vaccines’ were rolled out, business was booming.
Government has stepped in and gives just enough to get by so men don’t have to work. Too many men don’t know what it is to be a man, and have zero pride. Plenty of attitude and but no sense of self.
"You know I love you baby! Can you make me a sammich real quick?"
In my neck of the woods a certified forklift driver can work almost anywhere for $35/hour. Unskilled warehouse labor starts around $21.50.
Or it could be whites are dropping out because of DEI racisim
Others are coupon-clippers or ne'er-do-wells supported by parents, grandparents, trust funds.
While we have relatively fewer super-wealthy than middle class, we sure do have a lot more of them than in the past. Each one has an entourage of nonworking people whom he or she supports.
Lots of the reason people act like idiots is they have no real pressure on them to support themselves. Ever.
It's the dark side of Maslow's Triangle. Once people get to the top of it, they mostly do not become self-actualized Renaissance Men. They instead become Hunter Bidens.
Young men today are gonna work just enough to get that flashy car or cool truck - and to get enough to be out in the girl-market to get some. Not many men today looking for a wife it seems to me when what’s out there are high body count hoochies.
You look on youtube and somebody asking young women what they want.....over 6 feet, 6+figure incomes, blah, blah, blah and they’re the ones who have trouble looking at being a 5 out of 10!
Why get married (and get the career job to support home, family, kids) to have that dream of an entitled wife who doesn’t want to work, wants to be treated like a queen, can’t cook, help out around the house and yard, etc. AND who gets half your sh!t when she’s tired of you 5 years later. What man would sign a contract (marriage license) like that?
[Okay, I know a lot of you are upset and say “it’s not like that!” and I agree with you, but what I’ve said above is what social media says and general impressions that are being put out in society today. Good women are out there. They’re just not on TikTok, on Instagram doing selfies, or spending all their time on Facebook.]
“the longer people are out of the workforce, the higher the chances they’ll experience mental-health challenges.”
If having a bad day or waking up on the wrong side of the bed once in a while are now “mental health challenges” then sitting down and enjoying a springtime afternoon baseball game at home with a cold six pack of beer must be “self-medication”.
This makes no sense in the context of why men dont work.
are you on cocaine or do you just want people to know that you are cool because you know a guy who does cocaine? IDK.
Thank you
And often aided and abetted by others who think a “reversal of fortune” cannot happen to them. It can.
“ Men are responding to the incentives before them and acting on it.”
That’s it, plain and simple.
9/30/2020. Worked my butt off. Done.
Recruiter: I’m having difficulty filling this position.
Also recruiter: Master’s degree preferred; starts at $15.84/hour.
“Marx and Engles wrote in the communist manifesto “from each according to his ability to each according to his needs”. the Americanized version is “from those who can and do to those who could but won’t...why should they when they can employ the police power of government to TAKE it from those who can and do then give it to those who could...but won’t” L.Star
BINGO!!!!!
I see that every day. HR regularly spews DEI, Racism, Tolerance, etc., rules and regulations at a sickening pace.
I have 2yrs to go to retirement. Maybe it’s time to join the “ROAD CREW” and coast to the end.
DEI is also a big factor. I have been out of work for a year because I am a straight white male.
