'Kill Switch' to be mandated in cars by 2026 with software deciding if you're too impaired to drive

How much of your safety should you delegate to government?

In the name of safety, the government has taken steps that critics say have denied citizens what used to be considered inalienable constitutional rights.

Citizens are concerned that their right to freedom of speech under the First Amendment is being denied, ostensibly, to keep citizens safe from "harmful misinformation," and fear that the Second Amendment right to bear arms is being infringed upon to combat gun violence. Watchdogs further contend that citizens are being denied the Fifth Amendment's protection against self-incrimination and the Sixth Amendment's right to face one's accuser when technology is used to gather evidence.

The fear now is that increased use of technology will soon mean an even greater loss of privacy and further erosion of the Fifth and Sixth Amendments, due to certain provisions in Joe Biden's infrastructure bill which will soon become mandatory. Under the guise of keeping citizens safe by preventing drunk driving, it may amount to ceding the freedom to travel to government control.

The Fourth Amendment was effectively destroyed by the mandate for GPS tracking cell phones.

‘Kill Switch’ to be mandated in cars by 2026 with software deciding if you’re too impaired to drive or if the government decides you don’t need or deserve to drive

There, fixed it

How much you want to bet that the government will use such a kill switch on anyone that they disagree with.

The want the kill switch to shut you off if they don’t like your politics, limit your travel or your not playing thier game. Same with digital currency, they can freeze your accounts like they did in Canada at will. The control freak scumbags need to be sent to the shed, all of them

Any chance it can be tasked to screen people who are just too STUPID to drive?

“Impaired” happens when one is thinking incorrect political thoughts.

I can see software for overly tired drivers. But there is no test for marijuana or other drugs.

Vehicles will have software that controls your vehicle.

Driver impairment is NOT the issue here. Outfitting all vehicles with a kill switch is the issue. Impairment is just a pretext. There won’t likely be a workable way for the vehicle to detect if a driver is impaired.

This is a back-door to neutralizing driver control.

The important question is…who to sue when the “vehicle control system” malfunctions and causes an accident. What happens when the kill switch activates in the middle of a busy intersection?

Personal injury lawyers should be all over this.

Additionally, if a “vehicle control system” is hacked or malfunctions, it shouldn’t result in a ticket or points for the human behind the wheel.

It’s for your safety folks. It won’t be abused. Driving while being conservative will not be on the list of ‘’imparirments”

In the meantime, they keep pumping our cars with entertainment systems (Navigation, Bluetooth, texting and phone, climate controls, lane assists, other nanny options and etc.) that distract drivers

My car has dozens of opportunities to keep me busy and take my eyes off the road.

(But hey. At least it can park itself!)

mandate for GPS tracking cell phones

Didn't know there was one!

I remember when FCC passed it in an emotional furor for "safety". They could easily have required a manual on-off switch. No-go. Mandatory. Every cell phone since has mandated GPS tracking which data is uploaded to the cloud and kept forever. No cell phone has been manufactured without GPS since 2018.
