A recently retired schoolteacher is suing his Pennsylvania borough over a local ordinance after he was found guilty of putting a "for sale" sign on his legally parked car. "We put you in office as judges and state representatives to protect our rights," Will Cramer told Fox News Digital. "And when we see things like giving people tickets for putting a for-sale sign in their car – violating our First Amendment right – it's sad."

Took my online nickname on other forums from the band. Folks will ridicule the name as a “Jesus Freak” name, to which I reply “you’re darned tootin I am!”

Anyone who was raised in SNOW country knows about that.

Backing into a snowmobile in winter does the same thing.

Its not an HOA.... its his local borough.

PA is a commonwealth, so lots of little small municipalities, who in order to “protect” their little fiefdoms will pass insane regulations.

I’m in York (PA), in a condo with an HOA, in a small-medium Twp, and there aren’t any govt-nazi regs/rules here... yet. Guess I’m lucky so far.

I don’t want to go to FOX but am curious. Did they want him to buy a permit? Claiming it was a commercial business in a residential zone?

What was “their” justification?

"As a kid, a buddy and I swapped a bunch of “For Sale” sings in front of houses as a Halloween prank. The one we put in front of the high school showed up in the local newspaper ;-)"

I think I have a better one. My old boss' son put an advertisement in the newspaper selling his high school as commercial real estate. He went so far as to list the approximate square footage, phone lines, etc... . He gave the school office number as the point of contact. Surprisingly, he only got: in school detention for a month, had to pay for a newspaper retraction and the ultimate punishment- the school call forwarded all inquiries to his personal cell phone. My boss visited the school a year later (younger child went to the same school) and everyone she met (including the principal) mentioned how hilarious the prank was.

But I still don’t see how that sign was a threat to public safety or public order.

In this case it’s not a threat to safety or order, but there is always someone out there who goes too far and ruins it for the rest of us.

Somewhere out there, someone got the bright idea of becoming a used car salesman, but he didn’t want to invest in renting a lot to show his vehicles. So he started parking his inventory on the street, in front of other peoples houses, pissing off the neighbors who now couldn’t park their vehicles in front of their own homes. Or he parked his inventory on the curbs of heavily traveled thoroughfares, tying up traffic, and annoying business owners whose precious parking for potential customers was now tied up by these vehicles.

This is what happens in the city I live in, and that is why this parking ordinance was enacted here. It really wasn’t intended to hammer guys like the one in this story, but nonetheless it’s on the books and some copper who doesn't exercise discretion is going to write that ticket to get his one parker for his tour of duty out of the way.

“...Nazareth’s local ordinance that criminalizes having for-sale signs on vehicles that are otherwise parked legally on public streets.”

Apparently, there are NO permits around, or exceptions to, that ordinance of anti-First Amendment. He lost in court after pleading not guilty.

Thank you friend. Sounds like it might be rooted in anti “public solicitation” codes. In our area these public solicitation codes also include hitch hiking. They are far far too extreme.
