The most consequential falsehood in American public policy today is the idea that any racial disparity in any institution is by definition the result of racial discrimination.
If a cancer research lab, for example, does not have 13 percent black oncologists—the black share of the national population—it is by definition a racist lab that discriminates against competitively qualified black oncologists; if an airline company doesn’t have 13 percent black pilots, it is by definition a racist airline company that discriminates against competitively qualified black pilots; and if a prison population contains more than 13 percent black prisoners, our law enforcement system is racist.
We need to face up to the truth: the reason for racial underrepresentation across a range of meritocratic fields is the academic skills gap. The reason for racial overrepresentation in the criminal justice system is the crime gap.
Here are the relevant facts. In 2019, 66 percent of all black 12th graders did not possess even partial mastery of basic 12th grade math skills. Only seven percent of black 12th graders were proficient in 12th grade math. Fifty percent of black 12th graders did not possess even partial mastery of basic reading, and only four percent were advanced.
Black juveniles are shot at 100 times the rate of white juveniles. Dozens of blacks are murdered every day, more than all white and Hispanic homicide victims combined, even though blacks are just 13 percent of the population. A black person is 35 times more likely to commit an act of non-lethal violence against a white person than vice versa.
Lowering standards helps no one since high expectations are the key to achievement. In defense of excellence we must speak the truth, never apologize, and never back down.

The article also highlights the lowering of standards in the medical and legal fields in an attempt to achieve racial parity. Also in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Admission standards for colleges are being lowered.
In addition, the article highlights why police officers are not making certain arrests, or why district attorneys are not prosecuting whole categories of crimes. The reason is to reduce the disparate impact on black criminals.
The article was adapted from a talk delivered at a Hillsdale College National Leadership Seminar. The speaker demonstrated courage in giving this speech.
IMHO the lie of “disparate impacts” harms young blacks as well by telling them the lie that there’s no reason to try to be successful in life because hiding underneath every bed is a white supremacist who’ll take it all away.
Heather Mac Donald is awesome. Her articles at City Journal etc. are excellent.

Great read.
I’m claiming racism by the NBA. /s
It also brings society down overall, because those who can outperform aren’t being allowed to do that and pull us all ahead as a result.
She’s good and right.
<>It is strongly recommended that you read the entire article<>
LOL. Reading beyond titles is not the custom at FR.
Mcdonald has been saying this for years, if not decades. Nothing has changed. It’s only gotten worse. This is tilting at windmills, because the far left is deeply entrenched in power and committed to using this bias to destroy our civilization. It is intentional, it is violent and sociopathic. And it is winning.
Wut about da NBA?
This is a great article no doubt, but fortunately I am very well aware about those facts, but very few people pay any attention or give it any thought. I do believe the population is driven or channeled on purpose on this path to Doomsville by various sources such news media, some big business, and many sources of education as well as other governmental institutions and agencies.
The point being is, if this country continues on this destructive path the future looks very bleak at best and I wouldn’t rule out some form of dictatorship as we are already halfway there. If you don’t believe it just look what’s happening to one of the best Presidents this country ever had accomplishing more in his short tenure than the previous last two combined and now these criminal elements in our judicial system are salivating at the thought of putting him in jail. And what does a good portion of the public do, just shrug it off and hardly pay any attention. I for one as hard as I may try just don’t see any good endin
Some points made here are good. But the analysis is not very thorough—for example there is also an interest gap.
But the lowest of the low IQ in some narratives such as this is the attempt to cause division between different groups of Americans.
All of that “gap” was created by Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society.
“If a cancer research lab, for example, does not have 13 percent black oncologists—the black share of the national population—it is by definition a racist lab that discriminates against competitively qualified black oncologists;”
Jordan Peterson blew this argument out of the quarter WRT women in the work place. Same argument. Zero merit.
What is tilting at windmills?
Consecutive thought?
On the same topic, Charles Murray wrote The Bell Curve in 1994 and still probably has to have body guards.
Give a person a home loan they can’t manage and they get to add a foreclosure to their credit rating. Give a person a college loan who isn’t prepared for college and you create a dropout with a huge loan they have to pay off with no credentials to put on their job resume.
It must be systemic racism.
“ I’m claiming racism by the NBA. /s”
And the NFL and NASCAR who is currently facing a discrimination lawsuit
LOL
The absurdities...
