ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Good morning this rainy Sunday! This morning someone asked me, "How do you like the lousy weather, Chaplain?" I thought a moment about the fact that my uniform was wet, my car had trouble starting, and about all those poor people stuck in the wall of traffic that inevitably occurs when 58 gets drenched. Then later I thought, how would we exist without the rain which makes all life on our planet possible? I remembered the old prayer in my prayer book, a blessing to God for the gift of wind and rain.

There is an old story, a beautiful story, about a boy who came home famished after long hours of play with his friends. His mother served him some sandwiches which satisfied his hunger and caused him to thank his mom. She said, "Don't thank me, son, I only prepared the food." So he went to the grocer to thank him for the bread. "Don't thank me, young man, I only sell the food." He walked over to the baker and thanked him. "Son, you're thanking the wrong person, I only bake the bread." Wondering whom to thank, the boy went to the farmer to thank him. "Thank you for the fine bread that I eat every day," he said. "Don't thank me, my friend, I only plant the seeds. The earth, sunshine, rain, and wind make the wheat grow, not I.

By now the boy was tired and hungry so the farmer invited him to join his family for dinner. As they were seated around the table, each person took a piece of bread from the basket and said together: Praised be Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, Who brings bread out of the earth."

So, today, let's thank God for the sunny days and the rainy ones, too--as well as for the food He gives us. Each day is truly a blessing!

Chaplain Mitch Schranz

Hey there, radu!

It has been breezy, but not annoyingly so. It has been flippin’ HOT, though. Got up to about 89. We had to turn the AC on for the first time. LOL! Now it’s cooler. Well, 81, but that feels better than nearly 90.

Sorry the front caused your joints to act up. Sucks for sure. Not doing anything can be a good thing. LOL! Or at least I like it. But I’m lazy. :D

Hey there, Kathy.

It’s been a very pretty day up there. One of those days that looks sooooo inviting when you look out the windows but step outside and brrrrr. Not quite deck time. LOL
The melting process is looking good. I see patches of bare ground around Lake Hood at long last. WOOHOO!

Ugh! too hot for mid-April. Definitely AC temperatures but it stinks having to turn it on so early in the year.

I woke up a little achy and it slowly turned to burn. It was so nice outside and I wanted to get out to do a little yard work but there was just no way. I don’t like do-nothing days, especially when it’s a pretty day.

It’s waaaaaay too early for this. It’s supposed to be even warmer tomorrow and Monday [low 90s], then back to sanity on Tuesday.

Yeah, when it’s nice outside, it’s hard to have to give in to pain and not be able to do the things you want to. What caused the front to create so much pain?

It sure was nice to see....THE SUN!!! And it is still shining.

I ran out of time today, (but the garn checks came in and I got them done and mailed), so I will have to do errands tomorrow. No time to do them today “on the way home”.

It’s hard to believe anywhere in the country will have 90s at this point. I hope it isn’t a harbinger of what summer will be like. Ugh!
We’ll be a little above normal with some 80s the next week but only a couple of days. It’ll be pretty comfortable except for the rain that might come through. At least - - at this point - - they’re calling for a dry day next Saturday.

I have arthritis and the barometric pressure changes make the joints ache. This was a good ‘un and really fired ‘em up. If this line moves off fast enough, tomorrow will be a nice day to get outside to “play”. They said it’s going to be pretty breezy but if it’s not too bad, I’m out there.

I hope tomorrow will be as nice as today’s been so you can get your errands done in sunshine. It’s so much nicer to get out and about when it’s pretty like today.
I imagine everyone up there is antsy to get out after being cooped up for so long. It’s hard to believe the winter you’ve had!

Oh, I sure hope you’re right and you can get outside and breathe some real air! I have arthritis, but have never really noticed that barometric pressure affects it. Maybe I just haven’t put 2 and 2 together. LOL!

I hope you get that dry day. With it being the first day back at the museum, you don’t need rain to spoil the fun! Send it to me instead. LOL!

It’s harder every year. I don’t have a tolerance to heat like I used to.

Conversely, I wonder how you can stand such extreme cold. LOL! That kind of cold would keep me indoors forever. :)

We’ll see what the pollen’s like tomorrow. LOL I’ll take a look at the car’s windshield and go from there.

Humidity is a factor as well as the pressure. A pretty big one. My aunt’s second husband had reeeeally bad arthritis and they ended up moving from MN to AZ, which gave him some relief. She moved back to MN after he passed away.

I’ll deal with the aches and pains. There’s just no way I could live in a desert area. The lack of green would depress me too much. Winters here get to me enough as it is.

I hear ya with being depressed with no greenery. I miss it, and I haven’t lived around it for decades. But you’re probably right about the lack of humidity keeping arthritis pain at bay. I guess that’s one of the few benefits of living with dirt. LOL!

Guess I’ll finish this show and head out. I dread the early wake-up. Just hope I can manage to go to sleep before 3am. :)
