>> loss of fuel tax revenue

Oddly in support of that greedy excise taxation

Fight the EV mandates. The Country cannot afford to dispense with its petroleum infrastructure. Fight like your life depends on it β€” because it does!

The New Jersey State Anthem:

I’ll tax the street
(If you try to sit, sit) I’ll tax your seat
(If you get too cold, cold) I’ll tax the heat
(If you take a walk, walk) I’ll tax your feet
(Taxman)

[Starting in July, New Jersey EV owners must pay an annual $250 road tax fee in an effort to offset the state's loss in fuel tax revenue]

Excellent!

Now that EVs are MANDATED in New Jersey, it sounds like they’re done playing ‘good cop’ with their people and so it’s time to now get to the REAL PLAN which is to make the EVs unaffordable, thereby forcing the end of personal transportation in comfortable vehicles.

In NYS 66.62 cents per gallon are state fees and taxes.

If I drive a meager 12,000 miles per year and get 20mpg, I’d need 600 gallons and I’d pay $397 dollars for fees and taxes that is supposedly used for roads and bridges (I know, it’s diverted to welfare programs and the states bond out for repairs)

Most expensive to buy.
Most expensive to ‘fuel’.
Most expensive to repair.
Most expensive on convenience & freedom (range, lack of charging stations, etc)
And now, most expensive in tax/fees

Recall that the development of nuclear energy was hamstrung by what to do with nuclear waste. I think EV manufacturing should be curtailed until there’s plan to handle the disposal of the giant EV batteries.

Statists gotta state.

(I'm not anti EV at all. Interesting tech, just with its own peculiar plusses and minuses. And won't do what the innumerate true believers in "Climate Change!(R)" think it will.)

Like others have said, roads require funding to be maintained. The funding source traditionally is based on who uses the roads and thereby the fuel tax was created. EVs are heavier than equivalent cars and wear roads more. EVs should be charged more than the equivalent gasoline / diesel powered vehicle if the principle of taxing based on usage.
